Silicone Doppel Bag

Mess-Free Travel

Würkin Stiffs created this clever silicone doppel bag with the road warrior in mind. The seamless silicone design neatly contains toiletry leaks and spills, saving the inside of your suitcase from a disaster. The roomy interior holds plenty (like a whole can of shaving cream), and the outside looks rugged yet attractive.

Founder Jonathan Boos is a serial entrepreneur who creates problem-solving products for the modern man. But this doppel bag will appeal to any traveler. Crafting it from a single piece of silicone,
Boos made it spill- and leak-proof, but also easy to clean—just rinse and air dry and it’s ready for another trip. Read More Read Less

Hello everyone! I'm proud to introduce Doppel Bag to The Grommet. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

This sounds great. I've been looking for a good dopp kit. One question: what does it weigh. Thanks to the current airline rules every ounce matters. Thank you.

@Christine....our Doppel Bag is a svelte 1/2 lb...I travel with mine all the time and honestly it is best accessory I have...keeps all my würkin products together and in check!

  • Kristen
    10/21/2015 11:24 AM

@Kenneth In the details section, it says the weight is .88 lb., not .5 lb. Which is correct?

We just weighed it in our office its 1/2 lb....including the outside packing box its heavier

Good morning. Can you give me the approximate inside dimensions please?

  • Kenneth
    Kenneth – Special Guest
    10/21/2015 11:06 AM

@Clayton...About 10" in length and 6" high and 5.5" wide. One of the best things though is that because it is 100% silicone it expands a bit to accommodate a lot of different shape items...in this case size matters!

  • Kelly
    10/21/2015 11:03 AM

looks like a great product! I'm just laughing at the description...how it will hold a whole can of hairspray...for a man :) Do lots of men travel with hairspray? just made me giggle. Glad to know it will hold all the essentials!

@Kelly...Hey Kelly you would be surprised what I have seen come out of a guys dopp bag...some guys I know travel with more beauty items than any woman I know......sorry Danny but its true!

  • Diane
    10/21/2015 11:14 AM

@Kenneth.....if you make it transparent, then you don't have to guess what's packed in it.

  • Luanna
    10/21/2015 11:44 AM

To Kelly....commenting about hairspray for a man. My husband is VERY conscientious about NOT using anything ''womanly". But he does use mostly just a spritz of my hairspray every time he washes his hair, which is every other day. And yes, -- it surprised me the first time he asked for my hairspray. :)

@Joanne....from day 1 this has been on Jonathan's mind....we always keep our fellow würkin women in mind....it is amazing though how many women buy this bag to travel with their shampoo bottles etc...keeps everything where it is supposed to be....in the bag!..get it?? I got this in the bag... :)

Seems a bit overpriced at $50.00

Price was always part of developing the product....we wanted to develop a bag that the novice or avid traveler could use all the time and not have to worry about it falling apart...you will have this bag for years! Like a fine wine....quality over quantity.....You won't be disappointed!

  • Kris
    10/21/2015 11:31 AM

This looks like a really great product! The only issue I have with it is that I would expect to get two for that price. It's a bit over priced.

There is a lot that goes into manufacturing each of these bags...from the taped internal seams to prevent leakage to the embossed tire pattern on the outside of the bag. We have always gone by the old adage that the "devil is in the details" and we like to think we thought of all the details with this bag.

  • Nancy
    10/21/2015 11:42 AM

What prevents liquid from seeping out through the zipper area?

  • Kenneth
    Kenneth – Special Guest
    10/21/2015 11:52 AM

The zipper teeth are very tight which helps limit any leakage that could occur...also all the seams are taped inside so this helps to prevent leaks also. I had an entire bottle of hair gel explode in my bag on a trip to Hong Kong. Although my doppel bag was a mess...my clothes inside the suitcase were not...not a single drop escaped the clothes of our doppel bag...now that is magic!

Looks great. I was wondering though is the silicone used for this the heat resistant type like used it cookware/utensils? Thanks

  • Kenneth
    Kenneth – Special Guest
    10/21/2015 11:57 AM

It is a thicker silicone, but not "food grade" so it is not heat resistant.

  • Leonard
    10/21/2015 12:36 PM

@Kenneth Hi. What is the maximum temperature for the entire assembled unit. If it can reach 121-125 degrees C I may have a use.

If it has some heat resistance can you provide the composition of the zipper, adjacent material around zipper and inside tape?

Can steam pass through the zipper area or does that form a hermetic seal?

Technical questions I can not honestly answer...we never tested it for any of these things...sorry.

Handle? Don't see a strap to lift it.

  • Kenneth

    10/21/2015 12:03 PM

There are pull tabs on either side of the bag to give leverage for closing and also handling....they are big enough to get the job done!

The idea of a see through Doppel Bag is a great idea...we will have to investigate that a bit and see if its possible with silicone..thanks for the idea!

Your timing is perfect! I travel alot and wouldn't think of doing so without a doppel bag. Mine is now pretty long in the tooth and I've been looking for another one. The price seems fine to me. My last one cost about that and it's lasted 13 years!

Looks like a great design. Has anything ever leaked through the zipper? If you want women to buy this product you're going to have to make it in fun colors and designs :)

@Loretta .....the zipper teeth are very tight so we have not had anyone mention any unsightly leakage....I personally have seem this bag hold an entire bottle of hair product that leaked in it and it did not spill a drop...truly würks at containing the mess that is travel these days!

Hi John, we understand it won't be in the doppel budget for everyone, but as Ken explains, the price is a reflection of a high-quality product that will keep your belongings safe from spillage for years to come.

@Dan...here is a video from a customer who was so excited about the product he made a video showing us how much he fit in the bag...

Loving this video made by a fellow Würkin Stiffs fan. Our Dopp kits pack so much it's like a clown car...Don't believe me? JUST WATCH! Happy Thursday.

thought it odd that it is referred to as a Doppel Bag...original bag was named the Dopp Kit, issued to GIs during WW2, manufactured by Charles Doppelt in Chicago, hence the name. Did you know this? Is there an infringement issue?

  • Kenneth
    Kenneth – Special Guest

@Adrienne ....we did know that...it was also called a Ditty Bag for those sailors in the house....

  • Shaun

I'm sure I'm reading too far into this, but did the designers giggle or overlook the fact that it says "D BAG" on it in huge letters? I'm not really concerned, but it gave me a chuckle.

Since Ken has repeatedly referred to it as such on the board, I think it is on purpose, Shaun. They put the fun in functional!

  • Sandra
    10/21/2015 11:04 PM

If it is made of all one piece...then what do you mean when you say that the "seams are taped over"....if one piece, there should be no seams. WHY do you say it is all one piece and then say "taped internal seams to prevent leakage"? That is very contradictory.

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    10/22/2015 9:28 AM

Hi Sandra, thanks for the comment. It is made of one piece of silicone and because of that they fold in the silicone on the corners to create the shape. Because a fold might induce wear on the material, they put the tape in as reinforcement for that area to prevent leaks.
