Duality Cosmetics

Mani/Pedi In A Pinch

As an entrepreneur, wife, and mother of six girls, Barbara Lampugnale knows all about multitasking. She founded her company, Duality Cosmetics, to develop multipurpose makeup and beauty products for women with busy lives. Her first launch is an all-in-one manicure system called NailPak that ingeniously bundles nail polish, pre-soaked remover pads, and a nail file.

When you want to change or fix your mani/pedi, everything you
need is in a single, travel-friendly container. On top is the salon-strength nail polish (it’s free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP and camphor). The colors, which are named after women who inspire Barbara, are vibrant and right on-trend. Below the polish is a circular nail file, then a sealed compartment that holds 40 pre-soaked pads with a moisturizing, non-acetone remover.

Barbara got the idea for NailPak after resting a bottle of nail polish on top of a container of eye cream and noticing how well the items stacked. Her instincts kicked in, and Duality Cosmetics got its start. Today the company is getting lots of buzz. One look at NailPak, and we were hooked, too.

Grommet Launch Conversation

  • Barbara

Hi Daily Grommet Fans. At our house Sunday night is nail night. My girls and I gather to paint each others nails and enjoy our special time together. It was during one of these nights that the inspiration for NailPak came to me. Why not combine multiple nail necessities into an all in one convenient solution? Since my lightbulb moment, I've been working tirelessly to make the NailPak a reality and am thrilled that it finally is and happy to share it with you today. Please let me know what questions you have.

    Hi Barbara,

I'm happy to see your product here on Daily Grommet after seeing it on Shark Tank. Thought it was a great idea, as I too have been frustrated with the logistics of toting around all the "nail gear" while traveling. My question--is the packet of nail polish remover pads resealable, or does the container itself keep the remaining pads sealed when one has been used?

Kudos to you for this fantastic idea, and best wishes for the future!

@ Ann - Great question! There is a rubber ring around the seal which keeps the pads fresh and prevents any liquid from escaping. We will soon be adding refill paks of pads to our offerings so that the cup becomes reusable!

Will you be adding other colors? I love darks-- dark browns and inky dark reds and blues. Love this idea, but the current colors don't work for me.

If not, what about a "fill your own" Nail Pak so we could put our favorites shades into your clever packaging?

@ Bea Hi! We are so pleased to have these 6 spring colors and yes....we are adding many more. By months end we will have 18 colors. In the My Girls collection, named after my brood, we have Bethany- a cherry tobacco color and Gabriela - a rich deep red. Celeste in the summer collection is a dark almost black blue! You will love the fall colors coming out in August as well!

@ Doris - It is manufactured here in the US at a manufacturer in Mass. The bottles are filled with polish in Fl. The pads and wipes are from Ca. The product is more well traveled than I am!

@ Richard M. Quinones Sr. Hi Richard. Don't be too hard on the boys, they just didn't "get" nail products as well as Lori and I do. Although they do all have wives and daughters, perhaps they are buying them some right now. That would be sweet justice.

We had taped the show a few months back and had been working on retail efforts. The Daily Grommet was at the front of the line and I couldn't think of a better partnership right out of the gate.

I'm certain you daughter will enjoy her Nail Pak, our 6 girls love each new color as it comes in. Thank you for your thoughtful words, being a good Mom is always my first priority. Take care Barbara

We hope that you love our product as much as we do! More to come... Take care, B

    Hi Barbara!

I just wanted to let you know that I just saw you on Shark Tank. I was watching it with my roommate and it was the first time I have ever watched the show. I absolutely loved your sales pitch and said that I want it now!!! I have a rack in my room that is the home for all of my nail care products and it makes a big clutter. I love to do at home manicures because I do not like paying for them (except for special occasions).

Good luck and great idea! I cant wait to see it on the market!!!

@ Doe Stowell - Great question! NailPak nail polish is free of the bad guys known as toluene, formaldehyde, DBP and camphor. I will let Barbara tell us about parabens.

Hi! 2 questions - does this product have a shelf life? and how does it compare to other polishes and removers for smell? Thanks!

  • Barbara
    Barbara – Special Guest
    6/19/2012 6:00 PM

@ Emily - The polish life is 24 mths as well as the remover but of course, it depends on how much it is opened- how much air gets in. The polish is salon quality, high shine, quick dry. The remover is fresh scent with moisturizer in it.

  • Emily
    6/19/2012 6:14 PM

@Barbara Lampugnale: I don't do my nails but I do buy gifts for girls who do, and I want very much to support you and your endeavor, so Christmas gifts it is! (would be great for a bridal party to have for the big day too, so compact and all).

Thank you for a great problem solver, for keeping it simple and made in-country as much as possible, and for paying attention to limiting or excluding harsh ingredients from the product. It all matters a great deal. But thank you most of all for being a determined, personable, and intelligent female roll model. We need more Barbara's and less Kardashians for girls of today to be aspiring to! You go girl :-)

@ Emily - And this makes it all worth while. My primary goal is to be a good role model to my 6 daughters. A comment like this that validates my efforts is absolutely priceless. Many people have called me successful for inventing and selling the Nail Pak but this is what I truly count as success. Thank you.

I bought two bottles for my daughter's birthday. She was thrilled and loved the concept. However, she had trouble removing the lid/nail file to access the remover pads. After a lot of effort, she eventually used the tip of a screwdriver. My son tried to help her with the second bottle and accidently pulled off the black tab. What are we doing wrong? Do you have any suggestions?

By the way, the little drawsting bag that came with the bottle was a very nice touch. The colors were also beautiful.

@ M K: It's designed so you can grasp the seal (black tab) with the thumbnail & finger and pull firmly & gently to get to the pads. To replace seal, gently push down until it resets in the cup. Our Customer Support Team will be in touch to help you figure out what to do since the black tab broke off on the second bottle.

Great to know that you find the drawstring bag adds a special pizazz, especially when giving this Grommet as a gift.

Love, love, loved your presentation on Shark Tank! When I saw the update on your story and saw that you had your product in Ulta I told my husband that I couldn't wait to go purchase it! I picked up a bottle the other day and it is a quality product. I love that the pads don't stink up the house and they leave my nails feeling soft, polish is great and I plan on picking up more for x-mas gifts. Good luck and much success, you deserve it!
