Hanging drawings, paintings, or photography can be an art form unto itself. Lining frames up, mounting them evenly, and keeping the tops level can require multiple tools and lots of patience. But it doesn't have to. With Hang-O-Matic, a combination tape-measure, level, and wall marker, all you need is one tool and a couple of nails to set things straight. Created by Karina Rabin, she and her husband were frustrated with the unsightly nail holes and patch jobs caused by their misadventures in wall hanging. She designed this hassle-free tool to measure and mark anywhere from 8 inches to 6 feet. Simply press the sliding anchors attached to the tape measure to dimple and mark walls. There's no pencil required. Collapsible, pocket-sized, and weighing only 3.4 ounces, Hang-O-Matic goes anywhere and helps hang anything, including shelving and lights.

Hang-O-Matic was inspired when my husband and I moved for the 5th time and wanted to make our new home a little cozier. After buying a measuring tape, level, and a carpenter pencil, we were excited to begin hanging photos. However, once we finished we realized everything was crooked and we had to start over.

Hang-O-Matic measures the distance between 2 holes on the back of an item you want to hang. With it leveled on the wall it only takes a firm press on both ends to mark two perfect points on the wall. This easy three-step process finally makes hanging wall decor a one person job. We're excited to share Hang-O-Matic with The Grommet and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!

Since it expands up to 6 feet in length, can this be used to accurately hang several items on a wall? I always manage to get the second or third picture slightly off and end up patching holes.

    Hi Joyce,

This is recommended to use for one picture at a time. Karina will be along shortly to answer this further however. Good question.

Hi @Joyce, you can certainly hang pictures side by side. Its a tape measure that expands to 6 feet. First you would create one or two holes and then use the 2nd hole to space out between the next one or two holes. The tape measure allows you to measure and make sure its even between all the pictures. Please let me know if that answers your question. You can also take a look at a video of how to hang pictures side by side on our website.

What about frames which only feature a single anchoring point (as opposed to the two points featured in the video)?

@James Hi there. Because Hang-O-Matic is a tape measure and the sliding points move and the tape measure expands up to 6 feet, you can hang frames with 1 anchor. You can measure your distance from the floor for example of where you're wanting to hang and just use the 1 pointer on the Hang-O-Matic. With Hang-O-Matic the best feature is that you can do BOTH! :) 1 or 2.

We have a video on our website that shows how to do that.

Great idea!! My wife and I have moved 11 times in our 35 yrs together!! One suggestion would be to make the tape measure a self-centering type. I saw this at a framing shop and went out and bought one at Home Depot. It is a tape with the regular inch markings on the top and on the bottom the numbers are halved. I.e. Top 1...2...3...4...5...6, bottom 1/2...1...1-1/2...2...2-1/2...3. Sounds confusing but as an example you measure an object as 5 inches. Directly the 5 it says 2-1/2 which is the center. It is especially valuable when trying to figure out what the middle is of a 37-3/8 wall???

@Al Hi! Great idea. Thank you. We are looking into other tape measures to see if this is available. Congratulations on 35 years!!!

@Karina I have a centering tape measure also and use it all the time for many different things. Would be a wonderful addition to your product (which I am considering purchasing). Tkx.

This is genius. I tried using painters tape to mark the hangers and then take the tape to the wall but my marks were not even on the tape. I should have used the level again on my markings.

This takes every bit of guess-work out of hanging pictures or anything else. Thanks
