Chew on this

Finding a dog toy your four-legged friend will love, but not love to a million little pieces, can be a challenge. Many dogs would be just as happy chewing on a water bottle, but the plastic can cut their mouths and cause health problems if swallowed. Zach Day, former Major League Baseball player and longtime dog lover, created the Crinkit to give his pup Snoop all the crinkly, crunchy satisfaction of a water bottle without the risk. To use, place an empty plastic bottle, top and all, inside the Crinkit. When the bottle loses its shape and crumply sound, just remove it and insert another. More durable than cloth or canvas water bottle toys, the Crinkit is intended for medium strength chewers. Made in America and BPA-free, it’s a great way to satisfy your dog’s natural urge to chew and reduce boredom at the same time. The Crinkit was designed as a chew toy, but the fact that it bounces and floats makes it fun for playing fetch as well. Our testers also used it as a treat dispenser. Fill it, crunch it, fetch it, Crinkit is a product with lots of tricks up its sleeve.

@Amy I have a dog that can chew through anything. Will the cover withstand a strong mouth? What a great idea if it can!

@Paula the Crinkit is tough, but if your dog can chew through anything the Crinkit is not going to be a good fit. It's meant for interaction.

@Paula the Crinkit is very durable toy for average chewers, and our material is similar to rubber. Aggressive chewers or toothy puppies are tough on any toys. Our Crinkit allows for the great combination of durability and playability. Thanks!

@Zach We have a 60 pound, medium size Blue Pitbull who destroyed and NHL hockey puck in 30 seconds. Only a Lacrosse ball has sustained her jaws. I'm guessing this bottle cover is out of contention.

    Hi

I like some of your products, but u price them too high. I would love to purchase some but cannot pay what you want. That water bottle product is only plastic or rubber and the bottle inside would be free for you. Why do u ask so much?

    Hi All,

Amy from The Grommet team here. This toy is made in the U.S.A. of food grade safe plastic. We've found $20 to be a competitive price with similar products.

I love this idea but I am not sure how long this toy would last. My dog Beau has the jaws of a lion. He chewed up a jumbo kong in 22 minutes. Will this hold up under Beau's Jaws of death?

@Guest we definitely recommend knowing your dogs chewing behavior. Jaws of a lion are never a good thing for any toy.

    Zach,

I LOVE this toy and I only wish my dog would give it back to me, otherwise I would definitely buy one or two!! Please consider developing one that may be a bit more durable for lovable stinkers like mine, because when you do I'm a sure customer!

Amy from The Grommet team here. We have several dogs here in the office that are very very tough chewers and they didn't even come close to chewing through this. It's really very durable.

@Amy I have a dog who can destroy almost any toy in minutes. He has 2 of these and he is so enamored with the crinkly bottle sounds that he hasnt tried to to much to it. He did tear one flap on the bottom, but as long as I keep a fresh bottle in it he doesn't try to destroy it anymore. Love it!

Zach, I love your Crinkit idea and know my Daisy would love it too, but she is a Yorky about 11 pounds and loves playing with water bottles. It looks to big for smaller dogs to get their mouths around. Will you be making Crinkits for smaller dogs?

  • Zach
    Zach – Special Guest
    3/11/2014 2:45 PM

@Sheila the center diameter of the Crinkit is only slightly larger than the diameter of the water bottle, and the material can make it easier to grip. Our 9" Crinkit would be to large for your Daisy, but the 5" (fits an 8oz water bottle) Crinkit is lighter weight (1/3 pound). I could see this size possibly working for Daisy. You can also use it as a treat dispenser. Because we use existing water bottle sizes there are no current plans to make a smaller version. Thanks!

Great idea - I think I may get one. For now, my dog enjoys her water bottle inside an old sock that I tie at the end...cheap, and now you have a use for the solo sock. Yours looks nicer and is washable. I love it!

I think this is a great idea! Have you thought about making a smaller one? One for small dogs to use with the small water bottles? Just a thought. I would love this, but I think it might be a little too big for my little ones mouths.

A smaller size is definitely a good idea for those dogs with little mouths. If you contact The Grommet Customer Experience Team here or by phone at 877.862.0222 they will be able to put you in touch with Zach for this option.
