Answer to a cook's prayer.

A while back, I purchased some silicon bowl covers to use when heating up bowls of soup, steaming vegetables, and warming bread in my microwave. Siliconr /> Silicon lids do the job until something like a bowl of soup creates so much steam that it explodes, sending the light weight silicone cover flying, flinging hot liquid all over the interior of the microwave.

Further, in my experience, silicon lids do not clean up in the dishwasher very well.

Enter the glass covers from Grommet. They are heavy and do not move no matter how much steam is generated underneath them. They wash sparkling clean in the dishwasher. There are little "ears" at the edges of each cover that function like handles, making the covers easy to remove. ( Sometimes silicone covers get "stuck" and are difficult to remove without scalding the user along the way.)

I only wish that Grommet would sell these as individual units. For example, five or six of the smaller ones would be more useful to me than having to purchase a large one every time I wanted to purchase a small one.

I LOVE IT!!! It's glass, so it's heavy, but it's glass, so there are no chemicals leaching into my food. The tabs on the rim make it easy to handle, although I usually use a dishcloth to pick it up. Glass can get hot. I also find that it's easy to clean, often needing only a quick rinse under the faucet then a wipe with a kitchen towel. I keep it out, because I use it several times a week. A definite upgrade to my kitchen gadgets! I make a lot of rolled burritos, and the heavy lid helps to keep them rolled up tight. The smaller lid is terrific for heating a bowl of soup or leftovers. I'm extremely well pleased with this lid set!More > < Less

About Cuchina Safe

Glass Lids

When Susan Castriota was diagnosed with breast cancer, her daughter recommended she use glass microwave lids instead of potentially harmful plastic ones. So Susan created her own durable, safer glass designs.

Cuchina Safe lids are made with strong, non-porous borosilicate glass. It won’t hold on to odors, stains, or bacteria like plastics can. And unlike some plastic lids and wrap, the glass won’t break down when it’s heated.

The vented lids can handle temps up to 450 degrees in the microwave or oven, and are great for reheating, cooking, steaming, or to use as a splatter guard. Flip the deeper glass lid over and it can double as a baking dish, while the smaller lids can work as a top for pots and pans, too.

Cuchina Safe’s durable lids are a safer alternative and handy kitchen multi-taskers, too—and we think that makes them a double good idea.
