Pillow Talk

Could the fabric you snooze on be depriving you of your beauty sleep? Susan Leslie, the creator of the DreamSkin pillowcase, was shocked to learn that standard pillowcases made of cotton, silk, and satin actually draw moisture out of your face and neck. Skin cells rejuvenate eight times faster at night than during the day, and preventing moisture loss is critical for skin rejuvenation. Using her background in product development, Susan teamed up with Dr. Peter Pugliese, an award-winning physician and scientist internationally recognized for his expertise in skin physiology, to come up with a solution. The DreamSkin Pillowcase is Made in the USA of a patented blend of cotton, nylon, and lycra using a proprietary weave pattern to help your skin maintain crucial moisture while you sleep. The fabric is called JuveTex and with 22,000 filaments per square inch, it has a soft, luxurious feel. It doesn’t contain any dyes or fragrances and is even machine washable. Add it to your normal skincare routine and say good night to sleep lines.

    Hi Mary Ann,

We truly appreciate all comments from our community members. We know that not every Grommet suits every persons taste. Our community is large and diverse however and we feel this product is a new discovery and worthy of supporting since it's a new take on a traditional product.

    Hi Mary Ann,

    Glori from The Grommet here!

It's important to note that what's interesting and unique about this pillowcase is the fact that it is actually not made out of Cotton, but a physician formulated blend of fabrics specially created to improve skin quality.

Before we launched this product most of us here at The Grommet didn't realize that Cotton is a hydrophilic (water-loving) fabric that sucks the moisture from skin while we sleep, leading to sleep wrinkles and dull skin tone.

This little known fact about cotton and it's damaging effect on skin is exactly why we are so excited to bring the DreamSkin story to our community!

    Hello Mary Ann,

Yes, DreamSkin is a new technology in skin care, so it may sound unusual to you at first. It is a combination of threads, 22,000 microfibers per inch and a proprietary weave pattern that is uniquely constructed to channel moisture away from the skin's surface via a hydrophobic transport layer to the soft absorbent backing layer where it then evaporates. DreamSkin is designed to keep the moisture in your skin. The fabric was physician formulated because the amount of water passing through the skin is critical since too much water will macerate the skin and too little will leave your skin dry. Each yarn is a specific weight and type to provide the exact amount of water proof surface to reduce water loss in the facial skin.

@Susan J. Your reply to Mary Ann seems contradictory since the second sentence describes the fabric channeling moisture away from the skin and the third sentence describes the fabric as designed to keep moisture in the skin.

To clarify, the surface of the DreamSkin pillowcase stays dry while helping to retain the Optimal Percentage of water in your skin, therefore making it soft and youthful. Other fabrics such as cotton, satin or silk wick moisture from your skin and retain it, so those moist fabrics stick to your skin and pull on it, forming creases in the fabric and in your skin while you sleep.

Will sleeping on this pillowcase make you hotter? For instance, I have found that polyester or percale pillowcases seem to produce/reflect more heat than cotton & cause me to become too hot while sleeping.

I'm intrigued, but what if there is a lot of humidity in the air? Wouldn't the skin already be too moist as a result?

  • Susan J.

    4/25/2014 5:37 PM

Good question, Kathryn! You still need to moisturize if you live in a humid climate. Humid climates do have plenty of water in the air, but that does not replace the moisture you lose in your skin during the day and especially at night. Cell turnover is 8 times faster at night and DreamSkin is working during this crucial time when cells are most receptive.

I've been using DreamSkin Beauty Pillowcase for two years now! I completely understand the technology and that is why I decided to try it....it makes perfect sense to me how this works! Everyone knows especially as you get older that what your face touches at night will and can affect how you look in the morning! I decided to purchase something that wasn't a chemical or a surgical procedure and in my opinion this is the greatest invention ever! It's just another tool in the face de-aging toolbox and I am so excited to see Dreamskin and Susan here at Grommet!!

@Susan J. I also own a DreamSkin pillowcase and can't sleep without it! I carry it along on all of my travels. In addition to all of the benefits previously mentioned, the dense weave really cushions your skin - it's so comfortable, your boyfriend/husband will try to steal your pillow!
