WOW, I like it, very cool. But 50 bucks dang seems steep. At first I thought it said $30 and I was OK. Let me cogitate on this.

@David Great question David! The Eagle Cap-Off is made of all metal including a lot off stainless which is an expensive material to begin with. That in addition to the fact that this is hand crafted and assembled in America all adds to what makes this product so special. The market is flooded with inexpensive and poor quality openers that are mass produced. The Eagle Cap-Off is so much more than that!

    @David ,

It's worth every penny. We have dozens of originals from the 1940's that still work great, and we have improved the quality and materials. This is a lifetime piece.

@Matt It may be a tad high but I and others constantly ask "Is this product made in the USA?" Mostly the answer is, "No, we make it in China due to costs." I'll be ordering mine in a couple of minutes.

@Joe That was an easy decision for us as we wanted to make this the way it was made over 70 years! We won't compromise our quality or send work overseas to save a few bucks. Thanks for the business and supporting the effort...USA!

Good luck! I think your price point is kind of crazy for a bottle opener. While most bottle openers are not as cool as this one, they do get the job done for about 2% of the cost of this.

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    5/16/2017 11:15 AM

@Len I think @Matt said this beautifully above, but the Eagle Cap-Off is made out of excellent, long-lasting materials and is Made in the USA. You might be able to open a bottle with any opener, but this is a special item that will last for decades!

  • Matt

@Edna We've mentioned this in several other places, but the price is not reflective of any greed or a get rich quick attitude. The reality is that manufacturing for a small business that uses high quality, durable materials while making an effort to keep the business in the United States can be expensive.

I can assure you the price is set the way it is because of the cost of crafting such a great opener and has nothing to do with getting rich fast.

@Matt Ridiculous to spend $50 (plus shipping) on a device whose job can be done by a $2 device, other than to perpetuate elitist "craft beer" culture and for the owner to show off how much money they have to throw around to impress their friends. Having lived in the 1940s, I can tell you that this device was not widely used then, while a church key was (and you got those free from the liquor store).

  • Mike

@Kathy As Matt said earlier, this product is about the experience of drinking craft beer with a well-made, specialty device that will last a lifetime, rather than just any old opener.

Of course, sometimes a specialty item like this one isn't in the budget, and we understand that. Just know that when a small, independent Maker manufactures a product with materials like stainless steel in the USA, the price reflects that quality. As Matt mentioned, they refuse to compromise craftsmanship by sending it overseas to save a few bucks.

@Bonnie Thanks for the input and we are not sure where anyone is seeing $30. Unfortunately with the high costs of tooling, raw materials and American labor the price is what it is. We actually just reduced the price by $8 to appeal to a larger demographic on the Grommet!

Hi @Michael, we do realize that not every Grommet can be in everyone's budget and that this may not be affordable for everyone.

But products made for a lifetime out of stainless steel, in the USA, by a small business...these are all factors that lead to the price getting set where it is.

I've noticed that quite a few people are saying that it is a good idea. But they are saying that it is too expensive. Some people won't buy things if they are made in China, in order to keep costs down. In recent years, the western world has got used to cheap goods that are made in China. Consequently, when something of quality, is made in their own country, rather than in China. They will expect to get it just as cheaply. Completely ignoring the fact that it is of a superior quality and will last for decades. Seems you just can't please everybody whatever you do.

@Jenny Ha ha Jenny, welcome to our world! We always say you get what you pay for but cannot please everyone. Here at Eagle Cap-Off, we prefer to spend a little more to buy something of higher quality and craftsmanship that is going last instead of wasting money on a lesser good! Regardless, we are not budging and proud of what we are and what we have done with the product and company.

@Jenny Unfortunately we do not, The Grommet is still a growing company and we don't have the ability to ship outside of the US. It's something we hope to bring in the future, but for now we do not.

However, there are 3rd party international shippers that you can use to get our products internationally, e.g FedEx Crossborder. Those types of companies can help take over your package and ship it internationally.

  • Matt

@Jenny As Mike mentioned above, the Grommet does not ship outside the US but you can find alternative options if you look online! Thanks for the question and have a good rest of your day.

Do you ship outside the US?

@Jenny Unfortunately we do not, The Grommet is still a growing company and we don't have the ability to ship outside of the US. It's something we hope to bring in the future, but for now we do not.

However, there are 3rd party international shippers that you can use to get our products internationally, e.g FedEx Crossborder. Those types of companies can help take over your package and ship it internationally.

@Jenny As Mike mentioned above, the Grommet does not ship outside the US but you can find alternative options if you look online! Thanks for the question and have a good rest of your day.
