Package Protection

Not always home to receive packages? Trust a pachyderm for the job. Vanessa Troyer and Chris Farentinos know all about the frustration of missing a delivery. After thieves stole packages that were delivered when they weren’t home, the husband/wife team set out to create a secure, convenient way to receive packages and keep them safe from wind, rain, snow, and theft. Their invention, dubbed the elephantrunk, is a residential receptacle for envelopes and boxes sent from non-U.S. Postal Service carriers. It has a partition for outbound shipments and a vacation stopper for those times when you’re headed out of town and you don’t want parcels delivered. The elephantrunk is made from cast aluminum and heavy gauge steel, and it has a rotating drum, so packages go in, but they can’t be pulled out by a thief. It also can help keep your house safe from potential burglars who watch for packages that have been sitting out for several days -- a telltale sign that a homeowner is out of town. As online shopping grows, so are the number of UPS and FedEx packages piling up on doorsteps. Thieves have been known to stalk delivery trucks and watch for unattended packages. With the elephantrunk, you can elude these “porch pirates” and entrust your stuff to a pachyderm package-protector.

I think that is a wonderful idea. Unfortunately most people will not be able to afford it. I also wonder if the whole box could be lifted up and carried away.

    Hi Rebecca,

While it can look like sticker shock, we feel it has a multitude of benefits. It will last for years and is bolted to the ground to ensure it can't be carried, or blown away. We also feel that since it's protecting all of your future purchases, it's worth it's weight in gold.

I agree. A lot of people won't be able to afford this product, although it's a great idea. It does look like it can be lifted and carried off. This product probably won't sell. Hope you didn't make too many. You might want to have a sale.

Love this! It's a fantastic anti-theft / time-saving home appliance. To answer the comment above, the box comes with an anchor mechanism so it cannot be removed. No more waiting for UPS and Fedex all day. Woo hoo!

Does it come in a larger size? Several things I've ordered would not fit in the one shown. Also, are special tools and brawn required to bolt this to the ground? If so, I would have to hire someone and that would be an additional expense to factor in to the purchase decision.

Hi Cathy - Currently this is the only size, however, we are working on the next generation that will accomodate larger packages. Also, you can easily install the elephantrunk. The ET includes hardware and the tools required for installation are: drill suitable for masonry or wood and the appropriate drill bit, hex wrench and a philips screwdriver.

I recently purchased an elephantrunk for my parents.. They are always going out out of town and asking me to sign or pick up their packages. When I saw this at The Home Depot....I knew it would save me time and it would be more convenient for them. My dad said it was easy to assemble....and it has worked for them ever since!

I don't know- I'm looking at this and realizing this is a really REALLY good idea. Things disappear from the porches where I live because everyone has to work all day... and whatever I would spend on this I would more than make up for with my time saved dealing with UPS re-delivery. Because that is NOT fun. So yes- I think this is kind of genius!

Hi Sean - currently Daily Grommet doesn't ship to the UK, however, they are in the process of working with a third party for internatinoal shipping. We will keep you posted.
