The Ultimate Misting Machine

When oil sprayers first appeared in kitchen stores several years ago, they were a huge hit with people who wanted an easy, controlled way to portion their favorite oils for salads, marinades and more. It was a great idea, but in many cases the execution fell short. Too many misters were perpetually clogged or just stopped working altogether. But not this one. It’s imported from Germany, where engineers’ hard-won reputation for superb craftsmanship is taken seriously. The Emsa sprayer makes it easy to coat pans with oil before you bake, or to spray a marinade on the main course, or coat the grill so your dinner doesn’t stick. You pump the top about 10 times to pressurize it, then the non-aerosol sprayer distributes a fine mist. You can control just how much oil (or vinegar) you use, which is ideal for those of us watching calories. We particularly like that the frosted glass jar lets you see how much oil is left in the container — and what kind of condition it’s in. The whole unit comes apart for washing by hand. The U.S. distributor of Emsa’s products is Frieling, a company founded by Monika and Bernard Schnacke. Frieling’s mission is to make kitchen life easier, healthier, more enjoyable and more convenient. Emsa’s oil sprayer scores on all accounts.

    We are very excited that the Daily Grommet picked our wonderful Oil Sprayer for today. This sprayer is healthy in every way; it reduces fat without sacrificing flavor and is made out of BPA Free plastic. To pressurize just push the pump down several times. I am looking forward to your questions!

    I've had several oil sprayers in the past because I think they're a great idea. I don't remember the brand but it was a popular one. Even with careful use they always stopped working within a couple months of use. I just gave up. If I remember, they were around $20. How is yours better?

    I've owned a competitive product for years and I've not been happy with it for the 'clogging' reasons noted in the story. Plus not being able to see the oil was problematic. ("Is it not full enough? Too full? Is it fresh?") This product seems perfect. I just ordered one and, if I like it, I'll order more for different types of oils. Thanks, Grommet.

    What makes our Oil Sprayer better than the competition? Very good question, Pachato. Our Oil Sprayer features a mesh filter that makes sure that only oil makes it up the tube (especially when using infused oil). Customers say that they enjoy the "mist" of our sprayer. DJP pointed out the benefits of our glass housing; please note that it is safety glass (doesn't shatter in 1000 pieces). Our Oil Sprayer is BPA free!! Replacement parts are available; only two days ago we replaced the lid part to a customer who has used them for a few years...Maybe we can get him to comment. Hope this answers your question Pachato.

    TIP: Apply a fine mist of oil by using our sprayer to a spoon before

    dipping it into honey, This will get all of the honey in your

    recipe. =)

    Bernard that's a great tip! Something simple that I had never considered.

    I had a chance to play with this product while photographing it. What impressed me the most is that 5 or 6 pumps creates a good long spray period of many seconds. Infact, I could spray several times without re-pumping.

    I'm considering buying this and have a question:

    At the end of the video the host mentions that you can fill the sprayer with "oil and vinegar" would it be possible to use this for thin salad dressings? I'm thinking along the lines of those Wishbone salad dressing spritzers in supermarkets. I like those, but they're pretty expensive. I figure this would be great for something like that, but would a thin dressing lead to clogging problems?

    @Amber: Thin salad dressings (oil & vinegar based) can be nicely used with our oil sprayer. Clogging should not be an issue at all. If you have a great dressing recipe, please share! =) Thank you, Amber!
