Fairy Fastener

Jewelry Fastening Aids

Bracelet Yourself

Triplets Terri, Rhonda, and Lou put their identical problem-solving heads together to solve an everyday issue—how to put on necklaces and bracelets all by yourself.

These entrepreneurial ladies call themselves the Fairies—and their jewelry clasp helpers Fairy Fasteners. The Bracelet Fairy acts like an extension of your hand as
it holds the bracelet firmly in place so you can secure the clasp with your free hand. Its ergonomic shape is weighted and fits comfortably in your palm.

The Necklace Fairy is just as helpful. Clip it onto your necklace, and now the heart-shaped fastener acts like a magnetic clasp that is much easier to open and close. Internal pins help keep it shut, but it re-opens with a twist.

Thanks to the fairies—and their tools—putting on your favorite jewelry is as easy as waving a wand.

This seems like a lifesaver for anyone wearing a bracelet. Where did the idea come from and how did you actually bring it to life?

I never thought about this until a customer returned one that she had gotten as a gift. I played around with the bracelet and thought if only I could hold it at my wrist. I took a pen, held in my hand and secured the bracelet at my wrist. From there I took the pen apart and placed an electrical alligator clip up the pen shaft. Bracelet Fairy was born.

I shared my idea with my sisters and borrowed money from the Bank of Bruce (my brother in law). The local banks would not lend to us.

All of the team that we used to bring this to life are located in Calgary. We would have all of our meetings at a local diner we called the Bat Cave....same time, same place, same bat channel. You may be too young to have watched the old bat man show. My bossy sister, Rhonda was lovingly called The Commissioner. We all have nicknames from the show.

@Terri So happy to have found these! I have 2 friends with RA and a good number who after many years, have had problems with the joint in their thumbs making many things quite difficult, especially, with jewelry. Pure genius! Looking forward to birthday gift-giving this year knowing that these unique designs will be greatly appreciated.

@Carmeliene Thanks so much Carmeliene. We had a lady at a trade show tell us that she had nerve damage in her hands and wasn't able to put her bracelets on for five years. We gave her a Bracelet Fairy and she was able to put it on. She started to cry. We gave her back her independence she said.

What makes these magnetic fasteners any different from the ones that have been on the market for years? There are also many tools similar to yours for fastening bracelets at less that half the price (check Amazon). What makes yours better and worth the price?

@KATHIE This is true Kathie. Just like there is different types of screw drivers, we are the cadillac of fasteners.

Necklace Fairy is unique in it's style. It doesn't look like magnets on the back of your neck, it has an internal pin system that will not allow the necklace to pull about. You simply twist it to open. Magnetic clasps can either be too strong and you break your chain trying to get it open, or so so weak that the slightest tug you lose your cherished necklace :(

Bracelet Fairy is a patented tool that has been ergonomically designed to fit in your hand. It has been weighted so that it will stay secure if you have any hand mobility issues. The clasp has been rubber lined so as to not scratch your fine jewelry and can grasp the finest of chains securely. It is made of a high resin polycarbonate. The same material that is used to make bullet proof glass. It will never break if you drop it. It also comes in a beautiful travel case. Our products make for the perfect gift giving and you would be proud to give to a loved one.

@Terri I have had a Bracelet Buddie for a good 20 years, does the identical thing of holding a bracelet in place while clasping...cost me less than $5.00 and still have it. Same for the magnetic clasp (although mine is not a heart).

I don't think it is very ethical to take credit for ideas that have been around for years. and Boo on your price

Hi Elizabeth, if you've found success with the Bracelet Buddy, then Fairy Fastener may not be for you and that's ok. Not everyone will have a need for every Grommet.

As far as your last point, it's important to make the distinction between iteration and direct copying. Most patents filed now are for an improvement and/or new design on an existing product. Fairy Fastener falls into that camp.

The ergonomic design makes for a comfortable feel in your hand and has a more contemporary aesthetic. Fairy Fastener also takes a giant step forward in materials used. Instead of plastic polymer, Fairy Fastener is made from high resin polycarbonate and steel.

@elizabeth Hi Elizabeth. This is Rhonda, Another Fairy. Thank you for your concerns. We know there are many other bracelet fastening devices and magnetic necklace clasp fasteners on the market. When we started our project we wanted to be the Best, the Cadillac of all Necklace and Bracelet Fasteners. We hired a professional engineering design company to create them both to stand above in design, usability, material and appearance. We have an industrial design patent for Bracelet Fairy and Trademark for our name. Although Fairy Fastener™ does cost more then some of our competition, they are in our opinion, superior to the. We have used quality materials for a lasting product.

Does the bracelet fastener help with taking off bracelets and watches?

@Lynette Thanks for the question Lynette. I sure does help with both. I bought a watch online once that had a toggle clasp. It was impossible to put. My husband couldn't help because his fingers are to big for the little toggle end. It truly sat in my jewelry case for a year. Now I have no problem putting on my watch :)

About 4 years ago I bought a similar bracelet helping device at an arts and crafts show. The ones I bought were made from the handle of antique silver ice tea spoons with the alligator clip attached instead of the spoon portion. I bought several and gave as gifts. No one ever knows what it is when they receive it and I have to explain. Your are just as practical as what I bought years ago.

    @Elizabeth

(entered too soon!) But the silver ones are much prettier and make a nice gift.

I thought Grommet was for new ideas, not another iteration of items that already exist.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, Elizabeth, but I'm glad you've found a way to put bracelets on easily. The Grommet is for innovative products. That innovation can take many forms. Many products we have are an improvement on ideas in existence, which is a form of innovation in its own as I discussed above. In this particular case, the innovation is an improved design and materials that are durable and high quality.

Hi Ladies, My name is Karen. I like the classy look that your product has plus the added security of the posts on the necklace magnet so to me it is quite an improvement over other clasps and I used to sell jewelry. My question for you is:

I now live in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Is there any chance you could mail this to me in Mexico if I bought one of each?

Hi Karen, you receive one color for $19.95. An ergonomic, polycarbonate bracelet comes at a price especially for an independent Maker. With enough support on site though, they can bring the price into your wheelhouse.

    Dear Fairy Girls,

This idea is elegant in its simplicity! In the future I plan on getting several as gifts. I've had very good results with everything I've purchased from The Grommet and I'm very sure that these items will be just as functional and pleasing to me as my other orders turned out to be! Finally, kudos to all of you Fairies on a job well done, and a special acknowledgement to Mike for his patient and measured responses to the comments and questions raised by Elizabeth. It reminded me of my all time favorite Jane Austen line from Sence & Sensibility, "Elinor agreed to it all, because she did not think he merited the complement of rational opposition." Keep creating, Fairy Girls; i look forward to your next release!

LuAnne, you just made my day and I'm sure the Fairies', too. That is a great line by the way. I have never once reminded someone of a Jane Austen quote so thank you for that literary gem. And thank you for the strong support, we NEVER tire of reading about that.
