Filimin

Stay In Touch

Across town, across the country, or across the globe. Filimin connected touch lamps make it easy to stay close with special people in your life, wherever you are—and they were created by Makers John Harrison and Vanessa Whalen for that very reason. John DIY-ed the first version of this WiFi-connected lamp as a gift to help make it easy to keep far-flung family members feeling close. Just tap the lamp and the buddy lamp of a grandparent, kid away at school, or even an entire group of friends will light up with your designated color (there are over 200 to pick from). It's a simple but meaningful way to let someone know you're thinking of them without relying on a phone. Since Filimin began in 2014, John and Vanessa have kept in close touch with their community, too. The lamps are made in their hometown of Wichita, Kansas, in part with the Women's Initiative Network, which helps women recovering from abusive situations find employment. Filimin also employees refugees aided by The International Rescue Committee.

Quick Questions

How many Filimins can be in a group?

There is no limit to the amount of Filimins in a group.

Will my Filimin hook up to private/public encrypted WiFi?

Filimins will hook up to any typical home WiFi, whether it is open or encrypted with WEP, WPA, or WPA2. Never heard of these things? No worries. Just put in your WiFi name and password and your Filimin will handle the rest. Filimins do not work with captive portals such as those found at public WiFi locations or with WPA Enterprise used in some academic and corporate environments.

How will I group my Filimins?

After your Filimin is successfully connected to your WiFi, you can group them yourself using their manager. The procedure is simple: create an account and register your Filimins. After that you can create groups, invite your friends to your groups, and accept invitations. And you can always add more Filimins to your groups later.

Will I be able to add another Filimin to our existing set?

You can add one or more Filimins to an existing set any time you wish. After you successfully connect the new Filimin to your WiFi, you will log into our manager to register the new Filimin, then drag it into your group.

We have limited bandwidth on our data plan. How much data do Filimins use?

To answer this question, Filimin ran automated live tests on a dozen lamps. The results? If you were to touch your Filimin 18 times each day for a month, your Filimin would have used the equivalent of less than 20 seconds of high-definition streaming video on YouTube.

I want my Filimin to be in two different groups that are not connected. How would I do this?

Currently a Filimin can only be in one group. To have two groups you would need two Filimins.
