Hello everyone! I'm proud to introduce Firemizer to The Grommet. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!
-
Can I use this in a wood burning stove??? Looks like an awesome concept! Thanks, Katie
-
@Katie
Hello Katie, Yes it can be used in a wood burning stove -
@Kevin Thank you - just ordered one (and if you find it works in a BIG Green Egg, I will order more :)
-
Can the mesh be used in the bottom of a Green Egg cooker?
-
@austin
Hello Austin, I just looked up Green Egg cookers. We have done extensive tests in Europe and the USA but in Fireplaces and stoves. We have not tried the product in a cooker. It sounds like it might be worth a test! -
My fireplace has a gas fire starter under the rack for holding wood. Would the Firemizer work in that situation?
-
@Sarah
Hello Sarah, your fireplace can be used either as a gas fire with ceramic logs or as real fire burning wood. Is that correct? and you have a "gas fire starter" which cannot be removed from its position under the rack for holding the wood. Is that correct? -
Can this be used with an insert using Enviro Bricks?
-
@Russell
Hello Russell, Yes the Firemizer can be used with Enviro bricks. We have used Firemizer with a number of different natural and composite logs. -
Wow - I recently bought my first house with a wood burning fireplace and this is exactly what I was looking for - thank you! Question: my fireplace has a log holder 2-3" inches above a grate in the floor with large spaces between the bars. Would I use this in the log holder (like the video), or rest it right above the grate? Or both?
-
@Sarah
Hello Sarah, Place the FIREMIZER on your log holder. It needs to be in contact with the burning fuel (wood) where it will spread the heat more evenly across the base of the fire. -
@Kevin Great = thanks. One last question - can I rest a fire starter right on top of the FIREMIZER?
-
@Sarah
Absolutely it will not harm the FIREMIZER. -
Hello! How long does the Firemizer mat typically, last?
-
@Guest
You should expect around 500 burning hours of use. -
If I put this on top of my grate, can I start the fire below the grate? Will the fire starter flames go through the mesh?
-
@Rod
Hello Rod, yes this will work for a gas fire starter. -
@Kevin What are dimensions of the mat?
-
@david
20 inches by 14 inches. The FIREMIZER can easily be cut with a pair of scissors to fit your particular grate. -
I don't have a grate in my wood burning insert. Can you use Firemizer directly on the bottom of the insert or does it need to be elevated?
-
@Kelly
Hello Kelly, You can place the Firemizer directly on the bottom of your wood burning stove. -
I have a Rumford fireplace, which requires tall logs to stand upright along the back wall, directly on a floor of fire brick. Will this work for that?
-
@Emily
Hello Emily, it will work but I think you will have better results if you add a grate and place the Firemizer on top of the grate and then your vertically stacked logs. -
I currently use a section of chicken wire to perform this function but it wears out pretty quickly. How long can I expect this to last when burning wood?
-
@Ann
Hello Ann, great question. Chicken wire is typically made from mild steel. Firemizer is made from an alloy of stainless steel which allows it to survive at higher temperatures for a longer period.The actual time will depend on the fuels you use but you should expect 500 burning hours of use. -
What a great idea! Two questions for you:
I have a wood stove that is my primary heat source. I build the fire right on the the flat, grated floor of the stove. With this mat in place, will the ashes still be able to fall through the grate?
Secondly, if I have done my math correctly, the Firemizer will last less than a month in a stove used for constant heat. Is that true? If so, are there any suggestions to extend its life (aside from letting the fire die & the house get cold!)?
Thanks! -
@Bethany
Hello Bethany, You will notice when you first use Firemizer that the ash produced is very fine. Typically all the wood is burned to ash and this will fall through the Firemizer into your ash pan.
Unfortunately, everybody uses their fireplaces differently, as a constant burner you will need to replace your Firemizer more frequently but you will have more completely converted your wood into heat! -
I have a woodburning fireplace with an elevated grate that the wood goes onto. I start my fires with newspaper under the grate and the wood on top of the grate. Would the flames from the newspaper still go through the Firemizer that is placed on the bottom of the grate to begin to burn the wood on the grate?
-
@David
Hello David, The FIREMIZER will restrict some of the airflow you will be used to and this may cause you difficulty when lighting the fire in the manner you described. If you place the kindling and newspaper on the Firemizer and the larger logs on top this may work better. -
We build our fires directly on the fire brick in our wood stove. Would FIREMIZER make much difference for us?
-
@Sheryl
Hello Sheryl, We did the majority of our US based product testing on a stove like the one you described. Yes, it works! -
Please provide me with the dimensions of the Firemizer.
-
@Phillip
Hello Phillip the dimensions are 20 inches by 14 inches. The Firemizer can be trimmed to size to fit your fireplace using a pair of scissors. -
Hi Kevin, how long do they last? Do you have to change them out when you clean out the ashes?
Luann -
@Luann - Never mind, I just read above. Thanks anyway
-
@Luann
Hello Luann, the firemizer should typically last for 500 burning hours. The actual life will depend on the solid fuel you are using and how you like to operate your fire. You will find the ash is very fine and many people leave the Firemizer in place. Other users will dust off the Firemizer and then return it to the Fireplace. -
Do you have plans to produce a larger size FireMizer?
-
@Devon
Hello Devon, We have no plans to do that at the moment. If you have a larger grate area to cover you can place Firemizer side by side. They can easily be trimmed to fit. You should avoid doubling over one Firemizer on top of another. -
have you tried it with wood pellet stoves?
-
@Don
Hello Don, we have used it with pellet stoves. The benefits gained are not as marked because pellet stoves are inherently more efficient when it comes to effectively converting the solid fuel into heat. You will get the biggest benefit from using Firemizer in a conventional fireplace or stove burning wood. -
I went online to order this and the shipping and handling was $38.65! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Thats a total of $68.30 when all is said and done. What a ripp-off
-
@Guest
That does seem to be an error. Typically the freight charges are well under $10. Please try again to see if there was an error and/or contact The Grommet Customer Service directly they will be able to help you. -
There is a higher shipping cost on Firemizer due to the unique size of the product and because of that, we are offering a $3 discount on shipping which you will see toward the end of the checkout process. The price you mentioned should only be the case if you are looking to get it in the next two days. If your select ground shipping it should be in the normal range.
-
Nope. It's still $38.65. I have 2 choices- 2-3 days and 1 day is $42.07. Better check your site. Kevin will be loosing business.
It's still outrageous. No thanks. -
I would try logging in. There should be three options with ground being the first. Again, there will be a higher cost for shipping on this because of the size, but the discount should bring it down to a more expected level.
-
I am concerned that the mat has to be removed periodically to be cleaned. How often does it need to be cleaned? I cannot afford any downtime for cleaning. My house in Upstate NY cools rapidly and takes a long time to reheat to a comfortable temperature. Currently, I have an ash pan beneath the firebox that I can empty without burning the fire down.
-
@John
Hello John, in field trials we performed in Ireland where they burn peat in ranges that are used to heat the house we had one user who never re-lit her fire for three weeks! The fine ash will drop into the collecting pan. -
Can this be used with a gas fireplace? Thanks, Terry
-
@Terence
Hello Terence, I would not recommend using with a gas fireplace. It will not not improve the efficiency of burning gas fuel. -
@Kevin Many thanks, Terry
-
Is this the same Firemizer offered by Microtex Products? It looks the same, and has the same name, but theirs is a couple dollars more expensive and is being offered for sale in a storefront called Unbeatable Deals on Amazon. Is it two different products?
-
Hi Cathy, yes it is made by Microtex, but I could not find the Unbeatable Deal you are referring to. We are offering Firemizer at the same price as everyone else.
-
@Cathy
Hello Cathy it is the same product manufactured by Microtex Products but clearly being sold above the RRP of $29.95 - so their UNBEATABLE DEAL is in fact beatable!
We, MICROTEX PRODUCTS sell at the RRP as do The Grommet.
