H2O Cool

Frozen water or mysterious blue gel packs? When it’s put that way, choosing ice over synthetic cooler inserts is a no-brainer. But ice melts, and the contents of your cooler can wind up a soggy mess -- unless you’ve got FlexiFreeze. FlexiFreeze freezable coolers have built-in ice sheets that provide long-lasting cold. The containers are designed to be collapsible and fold up or have removable cooling sections that fit in your freezer for the next time you need a cooler. The ice compartments contain purified water, no gels or dyes. Besides being more appetizing than chemical gel packs, the encapsulated ice keeps items colder longer. And the soft-sided coolers are made of nylon and plastic, so they’re easy to clean. The idea for FlexiFreeze came to Mark Fuchs after he stumbled upon a unique machine that makes re-freezable ice sheets and started thinking of all the cooling possibilities -- not just soft-sided coolers, but also ice-sheet inserts for grocery totes, dessert and casserole dishes, golf bags, and serving mats. The water-filled FlexiFreeze sheets are designed to be flexible. They’re easy to cut with scissors, so you can trim them to fit in different sized containers to create a blanket of cold for food and beverages. It’s a better, more effective way to stay cool.

You do not give the dimensions of anything. Can you tell me how big the sheets are and the party mat and the carriers?

I assume that the sheets are not refillable? In time will the water start to evaporate very slowly? I realize that the individual containers are leakproof but I have seen SnowGlobes slowly lose their volume...not sure how it happens but it does. Will this also happen to the water?? Thanks for the info. I too would like to know the dimensions of the products. Also how long would the lunch bag stay cool? I realize a lot depends on the conditions around the bag.

    @ROBERT JOHN BIEDERMANN

Robert, thank you for the question. You are correct, the FlexiFreeze ReFreezable Ice Sheets are not refillable. However, they are made out of specialized multi-layer, food grade plastics especially designed to limit the pass through of vapor or oxygen. They are also very well sealed. So the result is that the water stays in the cubes doing its job for years and years. We are still using coolers from when we invented these in 2004!

With regard to how long the lungh bag will stay cool, third party testing shows us that a fully frozen lunch bag will keep food "refrigerator cold" for up to seven hours on an 85 degree day. To your point, other conditions will have an impact on performance. Like any other cooler, if you open and close it several time it will impact performance.

Thanks for asking, use them in good health!

I have been reading reviews of this item on many websites. There appears to have been some problems with the zippers arriving broken or breaking within a short period of time after use. Have these zipper issues been addressed? Thank you.

    @ Fred

Fred, good question. We did have a small production run a few years ago that had some zippers that caused a challenge. We have updated our supplier and no longer have that issue. We have a toll-free customer service hotline answered by a live person! So, we replaced the coolers of customers who let us know that they were having any sort of problem. Feel free to order with confidence.

Thanks for asking and have a good weekend.

If it's purified water, how long does it last? Eventually it would evaporate, wouldn't it? Thanks.

This is one of the coolest (no pun intended) things I've seen in a really long time! I just love what you've done with the collapsable cooler and the sheets have so many practical application uses. I'm ordering some now for an upcoming July 4th picnic. Thanks so much for sharing this grommet!

I tend to run out of freezer space to store things, so my gel packs are stored int he refrigerator. Can the ice packs be stored int he refrigerator, or even at room temperature in a drawer somewhere or int he garage, and put into the freezer when needed (hours or days before, obviously)?

  • Katherine

@ deb - That's not a problem. They recommend keeping them in the freezer so that they are always ready, but if you're good at planning ahead, it's not a problem to store them elsewhere.

Just what I need! Since I'm retireing this summer I plan to go on a lot more picnics.I can also see these ice sheets being cut down to be used as first aid ice packs, much better than that bag of frozen peas.

I've having knee replacement surgery in a few weeks. The Ice Sheets should work well for wrapping the joint during convalescence. How long would the sheet stay cold after taking it out of the freezer?

@ Nancy: It's great you are planning ahead to post-up healing of your knee. The ice sheets is a great idea. Mark's mom , as well as many others, have used the ice sheets for joint replacement recovery. The sheets stay cold for approx 1/2 hour.

If you need something to keep the ice sheets in place, FlexiFreeze has a product designed for this purpose. Someone from our Customer Support Team will contact you directly about it.
