Helmet Attachments

Helmet Head

Safety or style? Too often, it’s a battle. Kids don’t like the look of helmets when they’re riding their bikes, skateboards, scooters and snowboards, and they’re perfectly willing to skimp on safety for the sake of fashion. Parents, meanwhile, struggle to convince kids how important helmets are in reducing the risk of head injuries.

Jocelyn Fine is all too familiar with the battle, and her new venture with business partner Kelly Dineen is based on a creative solution dreamed up by her daughter, Maya, when she was
nine years old. Armed with scissors, tape and tissue paper, Maya created a mane of long, colorful strands that she glued to her brother Alex’s bike helmet. Alex, then seven, had been refusing to wear his “uncool” helmet until Maya transformed it and ended the stalemate.

Both former toy executives, Jocelyn and Kelly ran with the idea and created Fohawx. Their wacky attachments add flair to any sports helmet -- and all it takes is an adhesive strip with Velcro on one side to fasten the lightweight foam accessories. Five styles use the same attachment mechanism, so young riders can interchange Fohawx styles depending on their moods and ‘tudes.

Can you please tell me how much these accessories weigh? Will they make the helmet heavy? Also, the details section states there are 5 styles but only 4 are available to look at and choose from. Is that a typo or are you out-of-stock in a particular style?

Hi @ Dawn! Thanks for your interest in Fohawx. We are really excited to hear from you. All of our fohawx are extremely lightweight. They are: 1.8 ounces-4.3 ounces. The smallest, wavz, being the lightest and dreadlox weighing the most. As moms we were very conscience of this and strived to make a product that would enhance not inhibit safety.

As far as the assortment goes, the daily grommet team selected the assortment they thought would be most popular for our launch. We do have another style and we have plans to come out with new styles in spring 2013.

    Thanks for your comments!

It's really ashamed you could not find a way to make this product in the good old U.S.A. instead of importing this to China. This is a good example why so many people are out of work. I wouldn't mind paying more if it was an American made product. As much as i would love to buy 13 of these helmet attachments, one for each of my grandchildren, I won't because they are made in China. If you ever decide to be truly American and produce these here, then i would love to make a purchase.
