Neat & Tasty

The founders of FreshTape, Liz and Laura, aren’t neat freaks. They’re just two good friends who didn’t think the chip clip was all it was cracked up to be. Tired of the chaos in their kitchen cupboards and throwing away stale food, Liz and Laura created FreshTape. It’s a simple way to seal in freshness without adding bulk to your cabinets. Made in the USA of food safe recyclable materials, FreshTape is a resealable solution designed for use on any shape bag from family size to single serving snack packs. Perfect for protecting cereal and chips from staleness, it also helps prevent frozen vegetables from getting freezer burn, as well as from spilling all over the floor. FreshTape is so easy to use it can even help kids keep their lunchboxes tidy—no more half eaten snacks to clean up. Each piece of FreshTape can be reapplied up to a dozen times. Seal, reseal, and enjoy fresher food for longer and neater cabinets everyday.

We are Liz and Laura the inventors of FreshTape. We are so excited to be here on The Grommet today and are looking forward to curing the chaos in your cupboards!! Let us know if you have any questions :)

I love the idea, but I've got to say, your pricing seems awfully high for what you are offering. I can see paying that if you could re-use them more than a dozen times, but at a buck a piece - ouch!

@LINDA I think you may be looking at the pricing for one package instead of two (we sell in a two pack here). They are cheaper than cheap plastic bag clips, for sure. You can actually resuse these a lot MORE than a dozen times (Liz has actually used one over 100 times, but we don't recommend that for hygeine purposes!). If you have 20 kids with cheeto-y hands, it may last only 12 times. Your mileage may vary, depending ..but we really are underpromising and over delivering on the durability promise as it is a new product! Thanks for inquiring, Linda. We guarantee your happy organizing with FreshTape®.

    @LINDA

I agree with you, Linda. I love The Grommet concept of providing a marketing avenue for new products. However, their website prices are consistently higher than I expect. FreshTape sounds like a fabulous idea but, with shipping costs added and no website sales, I must reluctantly pass as well.

@Paula You get 36. And they will last a very, very long time. It's very high quality. Each individual packet is $9.99 when we sell at retail later this year and here the Grommet sells two for $19.95 (and their shipping is faster). Kathleen, I will add that bag clips (which are made in China and full of BPA plastics and germs, too) are not inexpensive either for the lack of quality. In the words of wise man Warren Buffett - "Price is what you pay. Value is what you get."I hope you'll give us a try! - Liz and Laura

Looks like a great product! I hate clips and clothespins cluttering up my kitchen drawers. One question: How does one store the tape between uses? I can see myself plastering the refrigerator with it, which isn't a great look!

@Jennifer Haha! We have a variety of ideas from people who use FreshTape® like the inside of a cabinet, sticking on the side of a fridge, on a new bag (until you open it). Since it's recyclable, you can put it recycling with the bag (recycle number is 5) and pull another one out. :) Let us know if you have any other ideas - we love you clever organizers. Laura

@Ellyn Grommet is the same as our website in pieces per set- all FreshTape is 18 pieces in a package. They come in an attached fan folded pattern in the kraft packaging you see here on the Grommet site.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

FINALLY A PRODUCT MADE IN AMERICA! KOODOS TO THESE INVENTORS.

Of course it does cost more to have something made in America. I don't want ANYTHING made in China anywhere around my food. AND I am sure that they have to tack on a bit more to the price so that they can "pay" Grommet their percentage of the item cost.

This is one of those "hello" moments when you see a product and think "I could have done that". . . I think there are 18 strips of tape in one bag. I may be off a bit as I did the math in my head -- but if you only use one strip 4 times, it would be like having 72 strips in the bag and that calculates out to costing about 27 cents a strip. So I will buy a bag, share with my daughter in law, and I will come back and comment about the product itself!

  • Mara

I just realized that for the cost you get TWO bags, so my cost calculations have to change significantly to the amount of what? 15 cents a strip if you use each strip 4 times. Can't wait to get and try them out!

    3/4/2014 4:04 PM

@Mara Thanks for your kind words Mara! The Natural Resources Defense Fund actually did a study a few months back that showed American families throw away about 25% of their food- that's an average of almost $250 a month by their math. So compared with the food savings using FreshTape®, the $19.95 for 36 is worth it by far (if you are looking at an ROI reason to try it). Most people just like the stylish decoration idea for the kitchen...who thought you could accessorize your pantry, right? -Liz and Laura

If you plan to ship regular ground service, the cost is fairly in line with most of our competitors. I just pulled up a cart and saw a $5 shipping cost.

I usually always spend $50 dollars and get free shipping which is a great benefit! I recently discovered this site. I tell everyone about it. My sister just started ordering and she is always on it. So thank you for that. I only paid $2.09 for shipping to Nevada. That's not high at all. These are economical, fun, hygienic and good for the planet. I can't wait to try them. I get so excited when the doorbell rings........it's Grommet time!

I love the idea of taping the bag shut and have been doing it for years. I can't see spending this amount of money on your product, as an entire roll of Scotch tape is about 2.39 and works just as well. Good luck in your venture though!

  • Liz & Laura

    3/4/2014 10:32 PM

@Truly Beware- scotch tape has toxins in it that you don't want near food, fingers that touch food or food packaging (it's not made for that- FreshTape® is FDA compliant for food use for that very reason- to keep it safe). And regular tape is clear and thin without the fun of FreshTape® patterns. So please, for safety reasons, avoid regular tape of any kind for reclosing food bags unless it's identified as FDA compliant for that use!
