Activity & Cleanup Mat

More Play, Less Cleanup

If you’ve ever picked up a zillion Lego pieces, tried to corral a fleet of Hot Wheels cars, or painstakingly plucked Polly Pocket pieces from the carpet, you’re going to love this solution.

The Lay-n-Go activity mat provides a place for kids to play with their toys and makes cleanup a cinch . . . literally. The five-foot round mat is threaded with a durable nylon cord. When you’re done playing, simply pull the drawstring tight, cinch it with the cord lock, and you’ve got a soft, sealed storage bag. There’s a front
pocket for stowing the drawstring, four clear pockets for storing extra-special pieces, and a wide nylon shoulder strap for carrying. The outside fabric is denim, and the play surface is easy-clean nylon.

Amy Fazackerley, a mom of three boys, is the inventor. After a few too many lost pieces and chaotic cleanups, she and her husband Adam started brainstorming a better way to store toys with lots of small pieces. They started with the large Lay-n-Go, then created a smaller 18-inch version that’s perfect for toting toys on road trips and to restaurants. At home and on the go, Lay-n-Go is a great way for kids to manage their own toy collections. As Amy likes to say, “play for hours, clean up in seconds.” Sounds great to us!

I saw this mat in action at a large Christmas Craft Show in Northern Virginia and thought it would be perfect for my 6-year-old grandson. He loves to build things and has lots of blocks and Legos, and this will help the clean-up factor after the play factor has been fully explored. He lives in Nevada so I won't see it in action but I'm pretty sure it will be enjoyed and appreciated by all. I'm delighted to see this clever product featured on Grommet. Best of luck to Amy and the Fazackerley Family.

I saw Amy demonstrating these at the Bizarrre Bazaar in Richmond, VA. They really fit a need for the moms of my 6 and 7 year old grandsons. Think I will wrap them up tonight. They love to take cars and legos to their great-grandmothers for the holidays, the Lay n Go is really going to help keep Grammie Barbara more comfortable when the messes spread out. She is 85.

Are you planning to make a 36" Lay-n-Go? This would be a useful size.

Celia, we chose the two sizes after years of testing, trial and error. The LARGE (5’) was designed to handle large collections and is made as wide as we could go without having a seam on the play surface or the outer shell. The LITE (18”) is perfect for life on the go and was modeled after the size of a restaurant placemat. We have always considered a medium option and have actually produced several prototypes. We will be doing more testing and research over the next few months. No guarantees but thank you so much for your feedback! Playfully yours, Amy

This looks incredible! I have three grandsons living at my house, and my daughter has four girls, and a daycare so I'm sure we'll be in the market for ours soon.

Kids toys? Phooey! This is perfect for grownups who have craft projects spread out on all available surfaces. We might actually SEE the dining room table again!

Thanks for a good, simple idea (the best kind).

I'm with Mia. I think this is an absolutely GREAT idea for crafting projects. You could even label each Lay and Go with the project's name and keep them organized that way. I'm anxious to see how it works.
