First Brush

More than a baby toothbrush, The Brushies are colorful characters who are eager to help kids embrace brushing. These Made in the USA, food-grade puppets can put on a show—easily narrated with a related storybook—that engages little ones. Not only will it help them understand the need to brush and how to do it, it just might lessen their all-too-common resistance. Moms Hilary Fritsch and Colleen Crowley combined their expertise in psychology and dentistry to transform this mundane task into an imaginative adventure. It’s never too early to usher in good routines. Kids can start as early as four weeks (with help from Mom or Dad) and use Brushies all the way up to four years old. By then, they’ll be glad to graduate to big kid brushes.

@Beth Hi Beth! Everything is manufactured here in the United States. We used the highest grade food grade silicone...BPA and phthalate-free. The book and packaging are made here as well. Thanks for your question!

How about something like this to use with folks suffering from dementia. It's often a struggle to get their mouths clean. (Of course, it might be a challenge to prevent getting your fingers bitten)!

@Carol Thanks so much for your question. The Brushies are a great way to encourage anyone to brush that might be facing challenges. They are also pretty good at protecting your finger even with a little bitting! Thanks

I would love to try something like this for my pets - would this model be safe for cats or dogs? It would appeal to their natural chewing tendencies and aversion to traditional toothbrushes!

They have been making these for dogs for many years. Just look in the pet section at your favorite dog store. They also make meat flavored toothpaste.

Yes! We get asked quite a bit if they can be used on pets...and the answer is of course!

I have a young friend with cerebral palsy who is 16 years old. He has gross motor but not fine motor skills and cannot hold a toothbrush, so someone has to brush his teeth for him. He is very independent-minded and would love to do this task for himself. I'm wondering if you have any plans to make "non-kid" oriented brushes for others with disabilities?

@Margot Thanks for your question Margot. We have been asked about non-kid versions of the Brushies and would love to take that on at some point. We will certainly keep you posted. In the meantime he might find humor and appreciate our current characters as well! Adults love them too!
