The Cibo

Crumb-Catching Placemat

Anywhere Catcher

The Cibo is a portable placemat that doubles as a food catcher, and it’s the first invention from Amy Chandler, a California mom. Amy has two adorable kids, but they can be very messy eaters. At one point, she stopped making rice—her kids’ favorite—because she was tired of cleaning it off the floor.

Then Amy got an idea. What if
something could catch the mess before it even got that far? Made of sticky silicone, The Cibo adheres to almost any table, with a pouch that hangs over the table’s edge. Crumbs and bits that would end up on laps and floors are gathered in one place.

Of course, kids’ messes aren’t limited to food. Thankfully, neither is The Cibo. Craft time gets more organized, as The Cibo eats up glitter, crayons, and paper bits. When it’s not busy catching crumbs, The Cibo also doubles as a portable storage solution, for school supplies, snacks, or anything. It’s dishwasher safe, too. Toss it in the top rack, and The Cibo is ready for the next challenge.

Hi there Grommet fans! My name is Amy and I'm here today hoping you will become a fan of my product, The Cibo. It is essentially a "table bib" which can be used for children that have outgrown the bib but still spill OR even as a snack holder for babies. It's pretty indestructible and will last you the entire length of your child's messy development! I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

How does the cibo stick to the surface?

@Christy The Cibo is made of this amazing liquid silicone that adheres to most counter tops. It's similar but far better quality than the sticky bugs our kids play with:-)

I tried this product, and unless it extends 8-10 inches beyond the elbow length of a child (and not just a couple of inches either) it just doesn't do the job. In the end you now have two thing to clean up instead of just the table. Sorry, but toddlers arms seem to extend 20 ft, I don't know how this happens, but it does.

@christine although I appreciate your feedback, I have received hundreds of positive reviews. I honestly can't tell you how many mothers tell me how much they love it.! As with any product, it's not perfect for everyone, and you may find once your child moves into the next development stage, you will love it:-)

@Amy I just want to comment that I too have purchased The Cibo. Not only do I love it, but my kids do, too! It certainly does not catch "everything" but it makes a huge difference in my cleanup! If anyone invents something that entirely prevents kids messes, I'd mortgage my house for that!

@Christine. Having raised three sons I am pretty sure that the CIBO would have worked for two of them and for the third...there was simply no hope. He just treated each meal like he was creating an art installation. It was not pretty. I loved summer when I could feed him outside. But I would have tried the CIBO for sure and I do think it would have been great for (even his) art projects.

Hi Amy, I actually already own two Cibos and I love them. Is there a way to buy wholesale? I think it would be great for our pre-K class!

@Amy Hi. I think you are missing a major marketing oppertunity... the adult neurological population. These are people with strokes, head injury, Parkinson's, etc. Speech-Language Pathologists who work with swollowing disorders and OT might be another source for you to check out.

@Phyllis thank you, Phyllis, I love that idea as it has certainly been discussed and will be in development in the future. I have already researched the right colors for adult use, minus the eyes, of course!

    1/21/2015 2:14 PM

@Amy I was thinking the same thing! In fact it came up at Christmas Party at my Moms retirement community in Palos Verdes when they saw the one I got my Nephew

  • Nikki
    1/21/2015 2:27 PM

@Hilary I agree with this subject. I am 69 years young & would MUCH rather use this than watch my kids have to clean up the regions below the table and my messes! Could you please come up with more "subdued" colors however, since we could discreetly use them when out to eat < GRIN > ! Such a great idea!

I totally agree. My husband has Parkinson's and we would be interested. I would suggest the shape be rounded to compensate for the extra width necessary so it doesn't take up so much of the table space, especially with a group of people. I would be tempted to even try the smaller one if it did not have the eyes on it. This would at least catch what drops right in front.

@K I am so thrilled to hear these comments as I have already discussed it with a nursing home rep. It will be in the works as soon as it's possible! Please reach out to me thru Grommet so I can send you samples for testing once it's developed

Hi Amy, I have two grown daughters who are very happy with their Cibo. A question i have is do you now or will you in the future offer customizing options? Although my daughters each have a Cibo, they have taken them to their babysitters house and I would like to purchase them a custom one for their homes.

  • Amy

@Dale great question but to clarify, do you mean customized names on The Cibo? I hadn't thought of that but sounds like a great idea!

  • Jeannine
    1/21/2015 2:35 PM

@Amy sorry if this isn't too clear...this is my husband. Our daughter's live in another state and we are always ordering them sweet things to make their lives easier and we live being on trend and gifting things they've never seen before. He saw me posting and beat me to I think he is thinking about Football teams. Seriously, our family has a retired NFL 49er and he is always thinking in terms of teams or personalization like names. Knowing him he wants his photo on it so the grandchildren can see him all the time. He's being a little silly but please let us know if custom printing is ever an option. I told him to just take a sharpie marker and write a special note to them. I love sharpies and I love personal handwriting. We do think characters would be very fun or plain ones we could customize or give to my parents so they don't look like kid items. Just an idea :)

Is this a good baby shower gift?

  • Amy
    Amy – Special Guest
    1/21/2015 2:25 PM

@Hilary Great question, especially with Spring around the corner! Although I don't think a baby would use it until they are at least 6 months, it can stick to your nightstand and hold a mother's baby/nursing supplies for easy access at night.

I can't say enough great things about The Cibo!!! I absolutely love it!!! I have four kids and it's a MUST have at our table for every meal! In fact my two year old asks for it before he even sits down to eat. "I NEED CIBO"he says. I would like to buy a bulk of them and give them out as presents for birthdays etc. Do you give discounts if I buy in bulk?

I need to purvhase 5 of these for my grandchildren. What is the price per placemat for that quantity?

  • Jeannine
    1/21/2015 2:27 PM

We have The CIBO in our home and have gifted this item to family and friends. We've found it to consistently stick to numerous surfaces, it catches 99.9% of cereal, milk drips, grapes, loose taco contents, rice and more rice, lost-stray noodles, sticky watermelon juice & seeds, raisins, crafting supplies, legos, and even spilled juice. We have natural slate floors that used to require a brush to scrub up food we missed. I've noticed our floors are cleaner, our chairs are more sanitary with no food particles left behind to get smashed in, I'm no longer hitting my head on our table after cleaning up the floor, and I'm not finding grapes or other food items dangerous to my doodles on the floor. Now, the .01% that isn't in The CIBO is because we are giving that food to our dogs by choice not from table spill over. In addition, my son is 12 years old, not a toddler, with very long arms and all his mess gets eaten up by The CIBO.

I've now gifted The CIBO to family and friends that I love and care about because what is more thoughtful than helping a mom (dad) or grandma (grandpa) do less cleaning? I'd will even confess that my husband uses it and no more salsa on the floor. This really is an ageless product .

Amy, I wanted to personally thank you for creating such a brilliant product. First, how many times have I had a problem and dreamed up a solution but never even thought of where to start let alone follow through. Not only is this product easy to use, travels well, and looks beautiful but it's brilliant. Our entire family congratulates you on being a Stay-At-Home-Mommy-spiration!

  • Amy

@Brittany it really does! It sticks to glass, wood, granite, even kids plastic tables. In one situation it did not stick to an outdoor picnic table but I put a plastic placemat underneath and it worked great!

I have a CIBO for my 18 mos old and we both love it..It is a must have for dining out because he keeps his little snacks in there pre-meal and then it catches the main dinner crumbs so we don't leave a huge mess! I want to get some for his cousins that live in Florida. Do you do multiple Cibo discounts?? Thanks!
