    Hi, I'm Tara Bardeen, daughter of Grampa Bardeen's founder John Bardeen. Since I was 4 years old, I've been carving pumpkins, teaching carving skills, and helping to develop Grampa Bardeen's Family Pumpkin Carving Set. Let me know if you have any questions.

    I've used cheaper sets before, and the saws always end up buckling and/or breaking off at the handle. Are these made differently? I wouldn't mind investing in a set if I knew they were truly going to last. Is there some type of warranty/guarantee?

    Hi Patti,

    This is exactly why The Grommet team is launching Grampa Bardeen's. The carving kit is higher quality than what you typically see in the store and it's meant to last so you can continue using year after year. The utensils are a tough, hard plastic that won't split or crack after many uses and the steel is teflon coated to increase the toughness. I do not believe there is a warranty or guarantee on these, however I'm checking with the founder now so stay tuned.

    @Amy @Patti @Patti Thanks for your question. My dad, John Bardeen, created this set in response to the need he saw in the marketplace for a high quality pumpkin carving set that could be used year after year. The tools are made in America and we oversee the quality of the product as the manufacturer is right here in Colorado. With proper carving technique (our sets include instructions and we also have videos on Youtube demonstrating proper use of the saws), you'll get many seasons of enjoyment with our set. We are a family business passionate about pumpkin carving and we stand behind our product.

    @Amy While we cannot guarantee that our tools are 100% unbreakable, we do guarantee our customers prompt and personal attention to any issues they may encounter with our product. We really are just a phone call or email away and we care deeply about the user experience. Does this answer your question?

    @Tara It sounds like the tools are not guaranteed which I can understand but what if we break just one of the tools? Can we get replacement pieces?

    Hi there,

    This is Alyssa from The Grommet team and I tested these products pretty thoroughly. I have to say I was more than impressed as they were extremely sturdy and durable which made it super easy. Especially taking the top off which is something that's usually difficult. Also the variety of tools and the precision of them allowed me to carve much more detailed designs. I found the tools far better than the cheap tools on the market and safer and more accurate than using a kitchen knife.

    Love this Grommet!

    @Alyssa Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our product! We're so glad you loved our pumpkin carving set! This set truly is the product of years of testing and development and incorporates 4 generations-worth of pumpkin carving experience. It's the set my dad, founder John Bardeen, always wanted to create. And now he has!

    great grommet! was wondering if the blades are replaceable? the handles look sturdy, but without proper use, we all know theses blades can bend when working too fast/aggressively. perhaps a notch, with a small setscrew?

    10/10/2014 1:29 PM

    @christopher Thanks for your question. The saw blades are molded into the plastic handle for maximum stability. You are correct that saws always work best when used properly, which means carving with a gentle up-and-down motion like a sewing machine and not forcing the blade through the skin of the pumpkin. The concept you propose sounds interesting, we may just have to do some tinkering in Grampa Bardeen's pumpkin carving tool workshop and see if a replaceable blade system would deliver the same great user experience as our current tools!

    Tara ~ the carving set looks great, but, what templates are included? It would be nice to have numerous templates of evil faces, happy faces, owls, bats, cats, and witches with tall hats. Does your set include a full set of templates?

    @Roland

    Over the years I've found lots of free templates online through simple Google searches (e.g. "pumpkin carving templates").

    Not having lots of templates included wouldn't keep me from purchasing this set.

    @Roland Yes! 16 templates (patterns) are included in the set and vary in difficulty from novice level to more intricate. The patterns in the set include 4 faces (happy, spooky and Art Deco) and 12 scenes. The scenes include images of owls, cats, dragons, skeletons and witches. Unique to Grampa Bardeen's set is the inclusion of a few Art Deco (1920s) themed designs which always draw "oohs"and "ahhs" from onlookers. It's also possible to find patterns online and carve just about anything--if you have the right tools!

    We believe the small saws originally created by my grandfather, Paul Bardeen, and now offered to the public in Grampa Bardeen's Family Pumpkin Carving Set are the true magic ingredient in creating an incredible pumpkin masterpiece!
