DrinkTanks

Personal Growler

Craft Brew Worthy

Not since 1887 has craft beer been as popular as it is today. With more and more breweries springing up across the country, Founder Nicholas Hill and his dad saw the need for a container made with the same level of quality and care. They got to work, and after his father passed away in 2013, Nicholas continued their work and brought DrinkTanks to life with crowdfunding.

Manufactured from high-grade stainless steel, the Growler
features double-walled vacuum insulation and a revolutionary leakproof dual-bail cap system that preserves the carbonation far longer than any screw cap. Cold beverages stay cold for up to 24 hours without any sweating or condensation and they stay fresh for up to a week in the fridge.

And because the beverage only touches steel, there’s no loss or alteration of the premium craft brew taste.

Dishwasher safe and BPA-free, the DrinkTanks Growler is a great-looking way to present and store premium brews.

How much does this hold? It looks smaller than my normal growlers and then it needs space for the air gap as well.

  • Anna

@Brad the capacity is listed as 64 oz. in the product details.

Nevermind - I see on the spec page that it is 64oz.

Part of the confusion may be that there appear to be 2 different sizes in the video at 0:22.

@Sue Some of the footage was of our original DrinkTanks Growler launched on Kickstarter. We apologize if that is misleading. The images on the site are of the current model. They are 64 oz and have a lifetime warranty. They are extremely durable and portable! Cheers!

Any buyers should make sure they know their local laws first. Some states severely limit growlers and many require that you only use a growler with the establishment's logo on it.

@Brad Most require the Surgeon General's warning as a minimum. Doesn't look like this is on there. It would be great if it did.

Can I bottle condition homebrew in one of these?

  • Jake

We do not recommend force carbonation with the current system. Later this year we will be offering a Kegulator that will be an auto-regulating Keg Cap. This will allow bottle conditioning and control of 0-40 PSI. All of our caps will be interchangeable on all DrinkTanks Growlers.

Looks too much like a coffee thermos. Don't want anyone in my young family mistaking it for their kool aid when its park day! Maybe if you had different styles. OK though if you don't have these issues. Good product. Good idea. Little spendy for a thermos like growler.

Our local laws require the use of the establishments growler. How well would the beer hold up if poured into this container after being in the original growler (within 30 minutes)?

  • Jake
    Jake – Special Guest
    6/9/2015 12:48 PM

@Janet - Our growlers are leakproof and airtight so you should be good for transferring to the DrinkTanks Growler. The beer will stay cold for up to 24 hours without refrigeration.

Our bigger problem is being unable to finish a growler in one night. Will this do anything to help preserve the carbonation after opening better than a glass growler?

  • Brad
    Brad
    6/9/2015 2:45 PM

@Brenna It's basically the same as any other growler. Most beers stay very good for well over a week as long as you keep it cold. Once you pour the first beer you usually want to drink it all within a few days.

@Brad I also have better luck with growlers by laying them on the side in the refrigerator. It slows the gas leakage that leads to flat beer

  • Richard

You talk about it staying cold for 24 hours without refrigeration...if you put the growler in the refrigerator will it continue to cool the beer? I'm betting because of the insulation that it won't cool the beer without the cap off. Is that correct?

  • darell

    6/9/2015 2:16 PM

@Richard I own several high-quality, vacuum insulated growlers. Yes, the insulation will slow down the benefit of refrigeration, but refrigeration will slow the heat gain of the contents and even reverse it eventually. There's no reason to NOT refrigerate if you have the room. Or put it this way - if the beer stays reasonable cold for 24 hrs OUT of the fridge, it'll stay totally cold forever IN the fridge.

  • Clark

@darell another hint to keep things as cold or as hot for as long as possible: pre-chill or pre-heat your bottle before you add the liquid.

I wonder how this works with open container laws. when i fill growlers at Whole Foods they have to put a heat seal on the bottle so they are not considered "open",

Hi Elaine, it varies by state so I would look up growler laws in your home state and that should lead you to the right place. Hope this helps!
