Volcanica Candles

Intricately Carved Candles

Inward Burning

The secret to these carved candles looking pristine, even after being lit? They’re designed to burn inwardly, keeping the detailed surface intact.

Artisans in Tegalalang sustainably hand craft these intricate candles. It’s an area of Bali known for its thriving artist community and considered the artistic heart of Indonesia.
Founder Sahiba Sarna Krieger’s family has roots there, and wanted to support the local artists who are carrying on the region’s tradition of woodcarving.

They use locally-sourced bees and palm wax, which burns more cleanly than regular wax. Not only is it soot- and smoke-free, it’s fragrance-free, too.

When lit, the candles cast a soft glow through the carved surface. And when the wick burns down, pop a tea light inside to continue enjoying its lovely design.

How long does the candle last?

@Susan Hi Susan! I believe that the wick inside will burn for about 30-40 hours before reaching its limit, but the unique part about these candles is that the formations of the candle allow it to burn from the middle and burn inwards, so it creates an outer shell with the intricately carved design still intact. Once the wax inside has reached its limit then you can place a tea candle inside, creating a luminary piece that will last for use after use!

@Susan No, the candle is scentless, as many customers use them as centerpieces for their dining room or kitchen table. And when lit, they appreciate that the candle being scentless doesn't interfere with the dining experience. It's more versatile that way!

    @Sahiba

    Bees? Do you mean beeswax?

@Debbie Yes -- sorry the phrasing may have been confusing there! Maybe "Bees- and palm-wax" would be a little clearer. Beeswax and palm wax.

Do you include a information card about the candles and about their story? I think that would be interesting to the people that I am going to give these. Thank you.

I want to get one for my family in Germany do you ship there? How well do they travel?

@Margaret Unfortunately at this time The Grommet does not have the capacity to ship outside of the United States. It is always possible to use an international shipping forwarding service in which they would act as the 'customer' and the item would be sent there, and you would arrange to have it forwarded by them.

Or -- you could always gift it next time you visit!

Is the palm wax sustainably sourced (not hurting the rainforest)?

Are the candles made with artifical colors? How do they get their coloring?

@Heather The palm wax is completely eco-friendly and sustainably sourced from Bali. Our candles are made with the finest colors imported from Germany.
