Dry Pockets

WOLACO’s Made in the USA shorts go beyond other men’s compression shorts with snug, integral pockets. Keep your essentials secure and sweat-free when you work out. One pocket can hold your phone, and the other cash, your ID, or keys. Maker Terry White is a former Harvard lacrosse player. He loved running in his NYC neighborhood, but there was nowhere to put his keys and phone. The keys-in-the-sock move wasn’t comfortable. And pockets on loose-fitting shorts left his phone bouncing around and drenched in sweat. So Terry founded WOLACO—Way Of Life Athletics Company—and designed the North Moore short for everyday athletes like him. No need to choose between leaving your must-haves behind or suffering with added bulk or bouncing. These compression shorts keep your items on-hand and protected, even on the sweatiest run.

Hi Terry, will this fit all phone sizes?

  • Terry

    5/10/2016 10:48 PM

@Mike Great question! Our pockets can accommodate up to an iPhone 6plus housed in a lean case. If you have an iPhone 6plus we suggest you remove your case for a great fit.

  • Terry
    Terry – Special Guest
    5/11/2016 6:43 PM

@Mike, additionally, our media (phone) pocket dimensions are: 5.625” H x 3.25” W, but phones that are taller than 5.625" will fit just fine. Even though a small amount of the phone will poke out at the top of the pocket, the phone is still held securely by a cloth tape lining at the top of the pocket (inside), and the phone is held close to the body since the fabric is compressive.

How many credit cards or keys fit comfortably in the pockets?

  • Terry
    Terry – Special Guest
    5/11/2016 6:36 PM

@Mike The aux pocket is meant to fit a few (3-4) cards + an average key chain of 3-5 different keys. People certainly push the limits, though!

The pockets are water-resistant, are the rest of the shorts as well?

  • Terry

    5/11/2016 6:47 PM

@Mike - No, that's the beauty of the short! We've found a way through our unique design to incorporate water-resitant/sweat-proof pockets on a garment that you're supposed to sweat in! The base fabric for the body of the shorts is a poly/spandex blend that wicks moisture just as well as (or we think better than) most of your spandex/compression garments on the market.

The looks like an amazing product. Can you make a similar style for women? I'm a Type I Diabetic and this product would be perfect to hold an insulin pump safely and securely, but in a sideways position.

My only recommendation would be to offer upper pockets on left and right side. As a left-handed person, I like to keep my electronics on my left side.

Great idea.....always look at these Grommet products and say, "Why didn't I think f that."

Just watched this video and noted that it recommends buying a size larger than your usual size since they run small. I've just got to ask, why make them so they run small? Why not make them true to size?

  • Terry
    Terry – Special Guest
    5/13/2016 12:04 PM

@Sherri There will always be difficulties in matching "true" to size when you're dealing with a compression garment. When the fabrics literally change size when worn, there are a number of factors that affect the fit. Our fabric is slightly heavier and thus more substantial than your average spandex short. So for individuals who have larger thighs, it might not stretch as far as they're used to. But as a result, our shorts last longer than the average Nike or Underarmour, which both tend to use sheer fabrics that wilt and fray over time. Also, the construction and placement of seams on our garment are unique, thus creating our own "normal" when it comes to fit. This is a difficult question, so it may require a much longer answer, but we hope this helps explain some of the reaons in the meantime!

  • Jim
    Jim
    5/13/2016 4:21 PM

    @Terry

That's a nice, detailed answer ... but to a different question, it seems. If the sizing is consistent enough that people can be instructed to buy a size up across the board, why not just label them a size down in the first place? And if it's not that consistent, then I think the instruction should be different, e.g., "if you've got giant thighs, consider buying a size up".

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    5/13/2016 4:45 PM

Hi Jim, there is always going to be confusion with sizing across different clothing brands. This is just to help put it in terms people are used to with compression shorts. I'm sure they'll expand their size offerings as they continue to grow.

  • Terry
    Terry – Special Guest
    5/13/2016 4:49 PM

@Jim Thanks - to be clear, we are not saying "buy a size up across the board." We state in our product pages "if in-between sizes, size up." So for example, if you can't decide whether your waist is a 28 or 29, choose the medium. Hope this helps clarify things, as there may have been some confusion from the wording in the video.

Hey folks! I'm a Grommet member, runner and triathlete who tested these on in-house. I personally love the light-weight fabric and the thick waist band and could definitely train comfortably in these shorts. The black and blue colors would be perfect for women who want to run or train without wearing them as "under shorts" as some men might. For sizing, I'm 5'7", 130 lbs and usually wear a medium in running shorts. A medium in these shorts fit me perfectly. Hope this helps give context to any women who are interested in purchasing this product.
