Multi-Functional Pocket Tools

Light & Mighty

Founder and self-proclaimed tinkerer, Nate Barr, set out to find a pocket tool that wouldn’t weigh him down. When he couldn’t find one, he used his mechanical engineering background to create and make the PocketMonkey right here in the USA.

His company, Zootility, is a true American manufacturing success story. The PocketMonkey,
a 12-in-one utility tool that’s thin enough to fit in your wallet’s credit card slot, has been a resounding success. Millions of Americans own one. (If not you, what are you waiting for?)

Nate’s hobby has blossomed into a full-time business that employs seven people, and growing. They’ve expanded to other multi-tools, all light and strong. The secret to packing so much strength and utility into an ultra-thin piece of stainless steel? Heat treating for maximum durability.

So whether you’re opening a bottle, peeling an orange, opening a letter, tightening a screw, or doing other everyday tasks, Zootility has got a Made in the USA multi-tool for you.

I'm a tinkerer but also a minimalist, so I don't want to carry something bulky like a Leatherman. I made PocketMonkey so I would have all the tools I needed on me at all times. I left out a knife blade, so I could even fly with it!

Neat tool! I have a question about the "phone stand" feature. You suggest that it's handy for watching a movie on your phone during a long flight, but are you SURE that the TSA will allow you to carry a pocket monkey on board? I've seen a number of similarly innocuous tools confiscated by gate security, so I'm curious if you've actually tried to carry one onto a plane.

@Mark I have the same question. Very cool idea, but my husband flies a lot. This is useless to him if TSA gives him a hard time every time he gets on a plane...

@Carrah @Mark YES! You can fly with it. These 'monkeys have been on hundreds of successful flights...and counting! ;)

I designed it to comply with TSA's regulations, which aren't as strict as people think. For instance, you can even carry scissors up to 4 inches. PocketMokney has a one-inch letter opener that has an angled edge, but is not a sharpened blade (for this reason).

This looks like a really cool tool! I would love to see it come in different colors. In my household things disappear if they are all the same color. I need a different color to claim it as mine. Yes, I could write my name on it or paint it with nail polish but it would look better if it was part of the product. Do you have any plans for different colors?

@Helen I was thinking the same thing. I love everything in Purple or Red! It would make it more fun to give as a gift if you could personalize it a bit by picking out a persons favorite color!!

    Hi there,

Good questions. I'm sure several people are wondering. I've just asked Nate and he should be able to provide the answer shortly. Sounds like a good idea!

Hey all! Thanks for the great input. Making colored versions would definitely be cool but is also a challenge. Stainless steel is the material choice that allows it to be so thin yet so strong, but stainless cannot be easily colored like aluminum. We have some ideas around using silkscreening to accomplish colored PocketMonkeys but we've been focused on making the one product as best we can. Hopefully, it is something we can consider bringing out in the future!

Can it be used on eyeglass screws?

Nate, you are so smart and take well the the screen. I think you and Grommet need to reintroduce this close to the holidays when people are looking for stocking stuffers. I am getting one for all my adult children.

@Susie That is quite the compliment - thank you! I've never thought of myself as being such, so I must be learning quickly in this new business ;) From the great response we have gotten, I definitely can imagine "great success" at the holiday season. Thanks for your interest!

@Nate Barr, Founder Nate, Susie just said what I was going to. I watched your video on pocket monkey and said out loud "I don't care what this guy made, he presents so well, I will buy it". And.... my second thought was I am going to buy one for all my adult children also. Stocking stuffer was my thought, but I can't wait until then! Congratulations!
