Under Wraps

Today’s portable electronic devices can do plenty, but they’re missing something. Not another app or accessory, but something to offset the coldness of the hard plastic shells and rigid glass screens. We’ve found the perfect tactile complement: Wool felt sleeves from Graf & Lantz. They’re beautiful and functional, handmade in West Hollywood, Calif. Holger Graef, one of the founders, is an engineer originally from Bavaria, Germany. He was inspired by the use of felt in European design and started experimenting with a sewing machine and a few yards of fabric. He teamed with Daniel Lantz, who spent a decade in Japan, and the two partners developed an entire line of laptop and tablet sleeves using imported German merino wool and leather for the details. The soft wool felt provides a protective cushion for your devices, and it’s also water- and stain-resistant thanks to the natural oil content of the wool. You can see the fusing of Holger’s engineering background and Daniel’s Japanese influence in the sleeves’ modern lines, traditional materials, and refined detailing. It’s protective perfection for tablets and laptops.

Hello Daily Grommet fans. We are honored that our iPad and laptop sleeves have been selected to be the first Grommet discovery of the new year. We are here to answer any questions you may have about them, about the fine merino wool felt that is used to create them, about the wonderful people who sew them here in California or even how a German engineer ended up in LA behind a sewing machine. Let us know what's on your mind.

Hello Gentlemen, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet, dimensions 10.4 x 7.4. Will the felt sleeve still work for me?

@Renee: The sleeves are about 8x10 so your tablet will stick out the top a bit.

Hi. Just received a new Kindle Touch for Christmas. Seeking a nice protective case for that. Have you designed one yet?

Is it not a problem to have a magnetic closure (vs snap or zipper) so close to a hard drive?

@Jo Wilsmann: Our sleeves don't have any magnets in them.

Wool is known for making static electricity... the #1 enemy of your hard drive. Why would I put my electronics in something that produces static???

@Dee: As with all our products we did extensive testing to make sure our sleeves are compatible with the iPad. Wool is frequently found in products to protect electronics from phones to laptops and there is absolutely no problem with using wool felt as a cover.

I would be MUCH more inclined to buy one of these for my laptop and my iPad if they were available on the long side, rather than at the top/bottom. Easier to get them in and out.

    iPhone?

    Thanks.
