Information Guard

Locking down sensitive information is as easy as a quick roll (or stamp). The identity theft protection stamps and rollers from Guard Your ID shield your privacy on things like mail, bank statements, and even prescription bottles. The stamps and rollers all deliver an encrypted pattern that renders text unreadable. The specialty roller uses a unique ink formula that works on glossy finishes—like postcards and labels—without smearing or rubbing off. And it’s shaped to work on uneven and curved surfaces, like prescription bottles. The wide roller and stamp use oil-based ink that penetrates non-glossy paper, so information on bills, checks, tax returns and more is blocked on the front and back. Using a stamp or roller is more convenient than shredding and more environmentally friendly, too. Paper is often un-recyclable once it has been shredded. Whether you roll or stamp, it’s a quick and easy step to ensure your information stays private.

Why is there no replacement ink product for the identity protection roller??

Hi Sheldon, there is both replacement ink and a replacement roller underneath the video.

Sheldon, There are two types of rollers above. Wide Identity Protection Roller is indeed refillable. This roller is perfect for quickly covering up your private information on the majority of your mail. The Specialty Identity Protection Roller has a specially formulated ink that is designed to work on most coated paper surfaces like medicine bottles and shipping labels. Unfortunately, due to the special nature of the ink, making this "Advanced" roller refillable was not feasible.

    Shredding is even more effective.

@Nick, I would argue that shredding is AS effective but has its own limitations. Many recycling centers across the country cannot accept shredded papers. For government documents, shredding is not even secure enough for Secret and Top Secret documents. Using the Identity Protection equipment should be just one step you are taking to protect your identity. Also, the Specially Identity Protection Roller is perfect for those jobs that a shredder cannot handle like your medicine bottles or shipping labels fixed to cardboard.

Is the ink permanent? Will it come off with alcohol or other solvents?

@Anna, Great question. If you used the product as intended, it is quite permanent. However, if you get the ink on your countertops by accident, it is indeed possible to clean it up using any variety of household cleaning agents.

Sounds like a handy device. My only question is how long the ink typically lasts before it is used up or drys out...

@randall, I have good news. All of these products have a 2-3 year shelf life once removed from the packaging. The stamp styles are good for 1000 impressions. All the roller styles have 160 feet of ink in them. How many uses you get from the rollers depends on how far you roll but if you only used it to cover your name and address mail, you would get about 950 uses.

Can this ink be "lifted" such as crooks do to commit fraud with checks?

@Annie, Check washing is an advanced technique that some criminals are using. Unfortunately, these products are not rated to prevent this. These products are intended to be used as just one step of a holistic security program to protect your identity. I thief can pick the lock on your front door or hack into your computer. Every step we take to make it more challenging for them, the safer we will be.

i've seen documents with printed text that remains legible THROUGH redactions, for example, taking a Sharpie marker to cross out an account number on a printed statement. is the encrypted pattern what makes this more effective?

Hi Amy, this product is intended to be one part of a comprehensive security program. Thieves can pick the lock to your front door but does that mean you should not bother locking it? Every security feature has a work around however the vast majority of crimes are those of opportunity. Every step we take to make it less convenient to steal your identity, the more likely a potential thief will move on.
