Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs

Embellished Eggs

These stunning Ukrainian Pysanky eggs bring a bit of spring into your home. Traditional Pysanky is an age-old art form that involves intricate layers of wax and stains, applied by hand to beautiful effect. The base of these painted eggs is wood, not a real egg shell, so you can display them for many seasons to come.

Ukrainian artists work with Kyrylo, the founder of Vyshyvanka Ukrainian Gifts, to create these pysanky eggs.
Each one is made from spruce wood, painted by hand, and then sealed with polyurethane for durability. Creating a Pysanky egg is a painstakingly detailed process. Kyrylo’s passion is helping to keep alive this challenging, yet culturally rich, folk art so we all get to enjoy the beauty of this craft (and reputed good luck).

I happen to be Ukrainian and when I saw these eggs I remembered my grandmother making them. It is an art in itself. Thank-you for bringing back my childhood memories.

@Marilyn Doty: Privet, kak dela? We are so glad to hear about your nostalgic connection to these Pysanky. We had been egg hunting for Pysanky for some time before discovering these from Vyshvanka. They are in the authentic Ukranian style, yet more durable than their delicate shell counterpart, so they can be enjoyed year after year.

My mom has a single Ukrainian egg that she displays at Easter in a display case. I like that these are wooden and very well priced so that they can be displayed and you don't have to worry about a child or pet breaking them.

@Kate: Yes, these Easter eggs made from solid wood and very durable, nothing happens if they fall down from the table for example.
