Yogibo

The New Generation of Bean Bags

Your favorite seat in the house

It may resemble an old-school bean bag chair—but it definitely doesn’t feel like one.

A Yogibo has zillions of beads, like its 1970s predecessors. But these near-frictionless beads are wrapped inside a soft spandex fabric that conforms to your body like a hug.

After the success of their loungers (which are a hot commodity here in our office), Yogibo found that their brand of beads would be at home other places, too. Now you can sink into soft body rolls, support pillows, and cushions that use the same homey
formula.

Dorms, kids’ bedrooms, rec rooms, and family rooms—Yogibo is at home anywhere. The only place you won’t find one is banished in a corner. It’s just too irresistibly comfy.

Hi ladies and gentlemen: My name is a Eyal Levy and it feels awesome to be featured today on the Daily Grommet. Since a couple of years ago, when I left the medical field and started Yogibo, it has been one big enjoyable journey. If you smile at all the obstacles you find along the way and continue persistently with what you believe, it is just one big fun journey.

I would be happy to share those moments and more with you. So feel free to shoot me any question that you might have.

I have a question about heat. I'm a very warm blooded person and sometimes can't even sit on the couch for long periods of time because I get overheated. Does this absorb body heat or repel the heat back at you? I really want to get one, but not if I'm going to get hot and sweaty sitting on it. And what is the cover material made out of, it is cotton or something else?

@Melissa: Hi Mellisa, The outer covers are made of a cotton/spandex blend. The normally absorb the heat of the body. All I can say customers usually like it because it's warm enough in the winter but not too hot in the summer. I hope this answer helps :-)

@Eyal Levy: Thank you, yes it does. Winter isn't too big of a problem but it's the getting overheated in the summer time that I really have an issue with.

@Dawn: HI Dawn, Yes. The covers are machine washable. You can use 'delicate' cycle and even use the dryer. There is one year warranty on the seams and zipper.

@Eyal Levy: yes! the smaller beads are good for the feel of the chair. You mentioned also that the cover is washable....usually they recommend laundering such things inside-out to maintain the nice surface of the fabric better, so I thought to mention it. Good luck with your product!

@Elle Fagan: Thank you very much :-) and you're absolutely right about your comments. Just to add one more thing, it's also better to close the zipper of the cover when putting it in the washer.

How much is the shipping normally?

What size is the box and how much does it weigh (for the $199 product)?

    Thanks

I will let Eyal let us know the size and the weight of the box.

@j.w.w.: We're using a special grade of Styrofoam beads (polystyrene). Their size is ~2mm. These are the smaller size beads.

Hi there, this product looks great! I'm just wondering if like "old school" bean bag chairs, will it quickly lose support as the styrofoam breaks down?

  • Eyal
    Eyal – Special Guest
    7/26/2011 11:38 AM

@Anita: Over time (in average after a year or two) the beads shrink a little bit but it's not like the old bean bag that you need to throw away. You can open the zipper of the inner cover and add some beads to it. We have replacement beads available.

I was just wondering about the noise the yogibo seems to make as it moves around. In the demonstration video with Eyal, I can hear alot of background noise as he moves the Yogibo and when he sits in it. Are the Yogibos typically noisey? I read something about virgin styrofoam is 'louder' than reground styrofoam in bean bags, can you tell me anything about this? I am thinking about purchasing two large Yogibos for my kids for Christmas, but I don't need the added noise in our T.V. room...

  • Katherine

    12/4/2011 1:40 AM

@Amy: I talked to someone who tested this product and it does have a noise, similar to other bean bag chairs. I have a note out to Eyal to help explain what the difference between virgin and reground styrofoam may be.

@Amy: Normally when the Yogibos are fresh and new they make more noise than when they stretched out after a short usage. In the video we were using brand new Yogibos. The nice thing about the Yogibos is that they completely mold to your body so as opposed to a normal bean bag, once you’re in it molds to you and you don’t really need to move much. They do make a very little noise compare to a regular couch but we don’t receive bad feedback from customers that it is disturbing. Hope it’s helpful and wishing you Happy Holidays!!!

The photo with the infant caught my eye, along with the comment by the pregnant mom that she would use it for naps with her new baby. A soft surface that conforms to the shape of the child can be deadly for a newborn if she turns her head into the surface and cannot free herself. Just thought you'd like to consider this.

Hi Eyal. I suffer from osteo-arthritis and other medical conditions that cause chronic pain. Although I have several medications I will have to take for the rest of my life, I am always looking for alternative, non-medicative ways to find relief. Unfortunitely, I also live on a very fixed income. I have wanted a sleep number or memory foam bed for a very long time, but cannot afford one with my income. Do you have any suggestions regarding other products that are less pricey and may help with my chronic pain and getting a good nights sleep? Thank you for your time.

    Be well, D. Mathis

@ Dmathis: I’m sorry to hear that and I sympathize with you. Few items that we found that are great for people who have pain issues are Yogi Roll which can serve as a great body pillow and Yogi Support which provides a great back support. In the next couple of month we are going to launch our aroma therapy line which is microwavable and therapeutic for pain We can consult you further more if we can understand more specifically your needs. How long will these last? Do you have any plans for covers made in prints?

  • Eyal
    Eyal – Special Guest
    9/6/2012 10:37 AM

@Ruby: The Yogibos last for long time. The covers are extremely durable and don’t pop like regular bean bags. Overtime the beads inside might compress a little bit and it really depends how they are being used. My kids are jumping on the Yogibos all the time and every year or two I’m adding some beads to it. We sell big refill containers for $29. Obviously if all you do is sit on the Yogibos, it takes longer than that. As for now, we don’t have plans for printed covers.

  • Eyal

    9/6/2012 10:36 AM

@CindyB: A Yogibo can definitely hold a person who weighs over 300lb. I wouldn’t recommend that such a person would jump on it aggressively but I can tell you that 3 people who together weigh over 500lb can definitely sit on a Yogibo together with no issues.

I'm thinking of replacing my bean bag that is filled w/ foam, heavy, husband had PD and it's getting difficult for him to move it around. Biggest issue is we are attempting to cure a cat that "sprays or pees" out of a stress situation.
