I have a smaller dog; a 14 lb Shih-Tzu puppy. My girlfriends parents bought some other booties and they fit their dogs (Shih-Tzu's as well but mature) but they weren't all that impressive. Will these fit smaller dogs? I'm especially worried about the joints not being supported because they're too big or forced because they don't fit right.

    Thanks!

@Justin Hey Justin, thanks for reaching out! We hear you, we've tried them all. The Joey Boot is designed with a comfortable knitted legging and lined with fleece. They stay on much like a comfortable sock would on you. The boots also have a (detachable) velcro strap for extra support for those more vigorous walks and play time. I would recommend getting size XS for your little one. Does that help?

@Christy Please provide a platen showing how to measure for the correct size. I have a 13 pound mini pin. , I bought boots including the Velcro strap. He would not keep them on. I almost think we need a doggy shoe store with a fitter. That is why a platen would be useful.

What size it that curly haired white dog wearing. I have a dog just like that, a Havanese male that weighs 20 pounds. Would a small size work?

I have tried at at least 4 different types of dog boots for my mini schnauzer and they all have flaws. These look like they solve all the problems I've had with other boots. My only concern - do they stay on well? I have a fenced in yard so I just let my dog outside and loves to run around. Most of the time his boots fall off which is very frustrating. Do Joey Boots stay on your dog even when they are running around and playing?

Love your styling! My girl currently wears a medium in the "balloon" boots you reference so I will be measuring to see if she's a large Joey Boots. My biggest complaint about the balloon style is that she has to wear blue - so not her color : )

But they do stay on (until they get a hole in them).

I will be ordering her The Chelsea as soon as I decide size. Any help would be appreciated. She's a terrier mix - Jack Russell/Chow ! - about 42 ops and knee high. My other dog is a Cockapoo and wears the small red balloon. How do Joey Boots compare to the balloon sizes? Thanks and best of luck!

Hi Nora! Glad you like them. Our pups out here in NYC want to be just as fashionable as everyone else and blue balloons are totally not in this season! ;)

The sizes are pretty comparable to the "balloon" sizes. For your terrier/Jack Russell we recommend a size small. About how much does your Cockapoo weigh?

  • Christy
    Christy – Special Guest
    2/11/2015 1:29 PM

Hi Nora! We'd recommend a size Large for your Cockapoo. And the great thing about the Joey Boot is we include a velcro strap for a sure fit. The legging is a water-resistant knit, but if your pup is going to submerge his leg in a pond it will get wet just like any other fabric, but for walks and playing in the snow they stay pretty dry and toasty.

Hi Marilyn! Though we've never kitty tested them, we see absolutely no reason this wouldn't work for your feline friend. How durable are these boots?

Also, do you measure the paw width in standing or at rest (i.e., lifting the paw up and holding over a tape measure)?

When measured at rest, our 35-lb english Bulldog front paw is just a smidge over 2 inches wide at its widest location. We previously measured her paw length in standing at 3.25 inches, which correlated with a size Medium in Muttluks, but we never got to try those.

  • Christy

Hi Moo! Thanks for your question. They are quite durable. We designed them with frisky pups in mind. You can measure their paw while they're standing. (The width from one side of the paw to the other.) From what you listed above, we would recommend getting a size Large for your Bulldog.

We have a yellow Lab/Plott Hound mix name Bailey who escaped through 3 doors and zigged when she should have zagged. Her dislocated was treated at the local vet's office, but in the process, he cut off the circulation to her foot. His suggestion to remove her leg wasn't acceptable, so we took her to a vet near Cornell University. After surgery and many weeks of healing, we now call her Bailey Two-Toes. The vet had to amputate 2 toes on her right hind paw and graft a new pad. This was over two years ago, and believe me, she can still run like the wind. We've since added a fence with a gate and have had no more escapes. So you can now imagine what a problem it is to find winter boots for Bailey that fit. Do you ever sell 3 of one size and 1 of another? So far nothing we've tried fits her skinny foot. I'm a little disappointed to see these are made in China rather than America, but they do appear to be a well-thought out design. Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Karen

    2/11/2015 6:20 PM

    2/11/2015 6:57 PM

Hi Karen! So sorry to hear about Bailey's mishap, luckily dogs are so resilient and she probably doesn't even miss those extra toes!

We would have loved to have been completely made in the USA, but currently, because of our smaller size, we're not able to have everything completely fabricated here in the good ole USofA.

As far as Bailey's thinner foot goes, the Joey Boot comes with velcro strap that helps you snug it up to get the desired fit. We would recommend ordering them in the size to fit Bailey's three legs and starting there; and that may spell success for you!

Hi Ursula! We designed them to not only look great, but to be put on with ease due to their pliable, knit legging that still maintains it's shape. In addition to that, each Joey Boot comes with a velcro strap to get the desired fit just right -- which is all the better for more active walks and play time in the snow. For your Golden, we would recommend the size: Extra Large. I hope this was helpful!

Hi Christy, thanks so much for your prompt reply. I guess the only other thing I'd like to know is what material is the sole made from? I have seen many sole materials and most are not pliable enough to ensure the dog has a firm grip when walking. The other problem is definitely CONSTANT slipping off!! I love your customer service and hope to hear from you soon. Best, Ursula .

  • Christy
    Christy – Special Guest
    2/12/2015 8:53 AM

    @Ursula

Goog morning! The material of the boot is a soft rubber coating, it is actually really pliable and moves great with the dogs paw movements. As far as the boot slipping off, the legging works as the main support for the boot. It should be fitted comfortably around the leg. We also add in velcro straps if extra support is needed. Our dog Joey doesn't wear any velcro unless he is really playing hard in the snow etc. Hope that helps!

Winter Dog Boots

Dog Walk Catwalk

Keep your dog's feet toasty on every winter walk with Joey Boots.

Makers Tess Soltau and Christy Kolar are dog-loving, fashion-forward cousins who grew up on the same street. During freezing NYC weather, their dog Joey started refusing to walk outside. But none of the booties out there helped (and they weren’t attractive,
either).

Christy put her design degree to work, sketching up water-resistant, fleece-lined, nonslip dog booties with a stylish edge. Then Broadway actress Tess found a suitable backstage sewing machine and put together the first prototype.

Wearing his weather appropriate designer boots, Joey was a hit on the streets of NYC. One successful Kickstarter campaign later, Joey Boots are ready to protect your pup.

The sock-like top helps the boots go on easily, while offering a snug fit. Water-resistant soles keep paws safe from snow, ice, and salt. Non-skid soles offer traction. And while you’re out for a dog walk, the sophisticated patterns look ready for the catwalk.

What size it that curly haired white dog wearing. I have a dog just like that, a Havanese male that weighs 20 pounds. Would a small size work?

I think the boots would work great to keep burrs out of his paws.

    Thank you.

Hi Jessica! We're with you, we've tried them all too, that's what finally inspired us to create the Joey Boot. They stay on great! And we include a velcro strap for when the pups want to really run around and roughhouse. What a lucky pup to have that fenced in yard!

A question: I have an older cat with three legs. He now has arthritis in the one back leg that he has. Would this help with the padding to help this back leg at all? Have you ever had it used by a cat? Are they washable? He stays inside all of the time but I know his leg hurts being dragged around all the time.

Hi Marilyn! Though we've never kitty tested them, we see absolutely no reason this wouldn't work for your feline friend. It certainly would offer some protection from the friction of it being drug around. They are very comfortable material which is easily cleaned off and washable. We'd recommend trying the XS.

Hi Moo! Thanks for your question. They are quite durable. We designed them with frisky pups in mind. You can measure their paw while they're standing. (The width from one side of the paw to the other.) From what you listed above, we would recommend getting a size Large for your Bulldog.

Should I get a L or XL for my "Bear"? He measures the L, but not sure if he can slide into it. Thank you. Certainly can use a good boot to keep Bear in comfort on the winter salt out there.

Hi Rochelle! Our Joey is all fluff, so I completely understand what you mean. For your Bear, we'd recommend getting a size Extra Large if his hair is at a longer length for the winter. The velcro straps will help you get the perfect fit; and yes, the legging part is quite pliable, making dressing and undressing Bear a cinch.

Hi, I have a chiauha ( cant spell it) pug. He has very small feet and long claws and long dew claws. I have purchased every type of booty/balloon, and either I cannot get his foot in for his claws or the claws go right through the boot/sock. These look narrow, can I get his foot into it. Also he spins his one leg when he walks so will they stay on? He is very old, but still like to take a slow turn around the block. Kindly advise, thanks.

    Thanks!

She is SO hard on her paws that she has actually scraped off the front piece of all eight of her back pads to the point of bleeding.

  • Christy

    2/12/2015 8:53 AM

    @Ursula
