Critter Net

This flashlight and ghost crab net hybrid casts a wide net for your nighttime adventures. Its built-in flashlight is designed to help kids catch crabs, fireflies, lizards, and other interesting creatures. This idea was devised when three worried dads tried to keep track of 10 less-worried kids, hunting for ghost crabs at night. The kids were balancing a flashlight, buckets, and nets. They couldn’t see the prey and the dads couldn’t see them. Illuminet helped with both issues—freeing up one hand so kids can hold a jar or bucket, while lighting up their journey to keep them safer. This fun contraption is an exploration gadget for kids and a load off for the parents watching them.

Hey Grommeteers! This is Scott, one of the inventors of Illuminet! We are very excited to have Illuminet featured as a Grommet! We are just three regular guys that wanted a better solution for our kids. Instead of just talking about it, we actually did it! We love to spend time outdoors with our 10, yes that's right 10 (how did that happen?) kids and this product definitely facilitates outdoor adventures. Also, like the rest of you, we are all super busy so we wanted convenience. . .and the Illuminet was born! A win for both kids and parents!

Also the handle of the Illuminet Pro lights up (like a light sabre) so parents can keep track of where the kids are at night. The kids love the light up handle too!

@Scott I love this idea! What is the difference from the Light Up Net and the Light Up Net Pro?

@Terri Hi Terri. Thanks for your question! The main difference is that the ILLUMINET "Light Up Net Pro" has a fully integrated flashlight that lights up the handle like a light saber. The ILLUMINET "Light Up Net" has the flashlight attached with a custom attachment and includes an LED bracelet to provide visibility since the handle doesn't glow.

Both include all batteries required to operate.

Is the mesh in the nets really tight enough to capture fireflies? The gaps between strands appear too large to do so in the photos and the video.

@James Hi James, thanks for the question! Yes the gaps are a little larger to allow the net to perform better when used in lakes, streams, etc. The mesh is tight enough to capture the fireflies when swooping the net in the air but yes they are too big to keep them in the net for long.
