great towels

These are a rarity--a pretty towel that is also absorbent. They actually dry the dishes rather than just push the water around. Pretty colors and nice design.More > < Less

Love These Towels

I initially ordered the towels for three reasons. 1- because one of our friends mother was raised in Kerala. 2-because, having been involved in women's ministry in India in the past and knowing the need for women to develop independence, how better could I help from the US other than to buy their products. 3-finally...when we visit India our hostess ALWAYS has one of these towels over her shoulders when she is preparing our meals. It's a warm fuzzy thing for me. And, of course...THE TOWELS ARE GREAT. I worried about shrinkage and becoming mis-shaped after washing and drying. They are still PERFECT! I will probably order more for my daughter and daughter in law.More > < Less

About Kara Weaves

Softest Cotton

Cotton from Kara Weaves is unlike any other, and their mission is just as distinct. This social enterprise partners with cotton weavers in rural India to create Fair Trade goods.

Founders Indu Menon and Chitra Gopalakrishnan are striving to preserve the traditional cotton weaving craft while benefiting the economy in Kurala, India. Their weavers use pure cotton yarn, which they spin and weave slowly to achieve a soft, slightly silky texture.

Known locally as thorthu, this fabric is airy, thin, and more durable and absorbent than if it was made commercially. Kara Weaves creates a variety of goods, including their standout lightweight cotton robe.

Everything is hand made on traditional wooden looms, so no two pieces are exactly alike. The yarn, the weaver, and even the dye are all unique to that particular item. The result is one-of-a-kind, supple-feeling cotton that will add richness to your body and your home.
