Naturally Creative

Today’s Grommet is surprisingly excellent at multitasking. It’s a set of tools that can unlock your creativity when you’re feeling uninspired, it’s a sophisticated solution for decorating dilemmas, and it’s a fun, therapeutic activity that can take your mind off stressful issues. Los Angeles artist Karen Kimmel creates tools that provide an imaginative launch pad. Her unique stencils are works of art on their own -- beautiful, organic shapes inspired by nature, but without being too literal. Applied to paper, walls or fabric, Karen’s stencils spur users to try new ideas, layer different shapes and colors, and explore rubbings and other techniques. Karen came up with the idea for these stencils during a residency program at a center for adults with physical and developmental disabilities. She used the stencils to help the adults tap into their creativity and found they encouraged self-expression in kids, too. No matter what your age, you’ll have fun creating your own abstract artwork. The stencils will get you started, then you can let your imagination take over

The shapes are wonderful. I like the way they evoke forest images. I have been wanting stencils like this for a very long time. However, I am looking for shapes that evoke the feeling of an evergreen forest. Pine needles, pine cones, mushrooms, footprints... Again, wonderful idea!

Is it possible to get a clearer idea of exactly what is included in each of these items? How many stencils, what's in the activity book, etc.? Thanks.

@D: On the stencils, what is pictured is what you will get. For the book, here is another picture that may give you a better sense of what is on the pages. Click on the image for a larger view:

The activity book contains 12 templates for shading, layering or collage; five fluorescent pages with die-cut shapes; and five pages for interpretation and discovery.

@D: Hi there! I just wanted to chime in here - there are five neon pages in the activity book, and each are covered in abstract die cut shapes. Many pages have Karen's stencil designs on them, which can be colored in, sketched over, or cut out. Some pages have fragments of shapes, with inspirational prompts like, "If I were a tree, my leaves would look like this..."

    Hope this helps!
