Lyla Tov Monsters

Plush Toy

Stuffed Sleep Pet

Lyla Tov Monsters are adorable, huggable, one-of-a-kind stuffed animals for sleep—designed by a kid for kids.

When Lyla Black was just three, she drew a picture of a “good” monster as a gift for her dad. Her mom, a costume designer, helped her bring her design to life by sewing it. Soon the family was in the monster-making business selling at crafts fairs and beyond.

Lyla, now eight, is still in charge. She picks out the
fabrics and makes all the artistic decisions about what each monster will wear. A great shower, holiday, or birthday gift, her stuffed sleep animals help kids feel protected at night, so everyone can get a good night’s sleep.

It’s no surprise Lyla was the youngest Jewish child to win a TAGIE Inventors’ Award—and no surprise that “Lyla Tov" means “good night” in Hebrew.

Serious question for you, Erin and Eric: Does a Squonk Halloween costume exist?

Follow-up question: Can I borrow it?

@ Mike In fact we DO have a Lyla Tov Halloween Costume! Lyla's younger sister wore it when she was 4 months old for her first Halloween. Unfortunately, unless you can squeeze into a 6 month size onesie, I do not think it will fit you!!!

Haha that's awesome! Maybe I can just wear the whole thing as a mask.

These are cute and I am considering one for my granddaughter. She is only 5 months old. I think it would be great to make a book or story of some kind to go along with these, so that it could be explained to the receiver how the good monsters keep the bad monsters away. Or do they come with that explanation? Good luck!

@Ruth Thank you, Ruth! Lyla Tov Monsters are safety tested for ages 0+, so they make great gifts for showers and younger babies.

A book is a great idea. We've discussed numerous ideas for books and currently have one that we published in a very limited run as a test called "Billy & Dak". You should let The Grommet know that they should carry it!

@Erin & Eric Hi Ruth -- this is Erin! I wanted you to know that each Lyla Tov Monster also comes with a tag that explains the story of their creation and how they help keep the "scary monsters" away!

I loved these so much, I was going to buy 3, one for each grandchild, until I saw they are made in China. If ever you make them in the USA, I will buy them.

Thank you, Kathy! We started out making the Lyla Tov Monsters at home in NYC, but as our business grew, we had to find a production facility that could help us with manufacturing. We tested several American made options, but they couldn't provide the quality or safety standards we demanded. In the end, we went with an American Company that works very closely with a production facility in China to ensure excellent working conditions and optimal safety regulations. We aim to keep as much of the process as local as we can while still ensuring a good quality and safe product for our consumers! Thanks for checking out Lyla Tov Monsters!

Another product made in China! You should rethink that decision. I'm sure many people would pay a few more dollars for a made in the USA product. China is taking over the world, and you're helping.

Hi Bill, check out Erin and Eric's comment above. They go into detail about their manufacturing processes which is pretty interesting. It's not as easy as you'd think manufacturing in the US and I don't think Lyla Tov is assisting in a global take over. I'm glad to hear you'd buy more for US products though. Feel free to browse our Made in the USA section here and check out a blog post I wrote about this very subject here.

@Mike saying that they are not assisting in a global takeover is like saying, oh my one vote won't count. Add up all the companies that use China, and yes it does make a difference.

No, Bill, not at all actually. By not voting you are just not exercising your right to vote. You are suggesting Eric and Erin are voluntarily partaking in a sinister plot. They create plush monsters, they're not monsters themselves.

And I take it you didn't check out the blog post because if you had, you would have read about how difficult it can be to manufacture in the US. (Here it is again.) It's much easier said than done.

Again, as Eric and Erin said above, they did try to manufacture in the US, but found it near impossible to do so. Supporting them, not demonizing them, is what will help them grow to a point where they can afford to manufacture domestically.
