Tape Cutter

How to Cut Tape

Ever struggled to find the end of a tape roll, or to cut off pieces? The Tadpole tape cutter will put an end to that.

This time (and sanity) saver gives you a clean, straight piece of tape every time. Its bungee-like cord attaches the blade to a roll, staying flush against the tape—like a less-bulky tape gun that’s even easier
to use.

Lee Mallahan III created Tadpole after fighting to get straight pieces of painters tape for numerous glass door panes. Besides giving tape users everywhere a much-needed break, Tadpole gives back, too. It’s Made in the USA by partners from The Louisiana Association for the Blind.

Tadpole is low profile enough to keep on any roll in your toolbox or kitchen drawer—electrical, duct, masking, painters. And when one roll is finished, Tadpole goes right onto the next. Now you can stop using scissors, a box cutter, a knife—or worse, your teeth—to get a piece of tape.

Tadpole is made in the USA by The Louisiana Association for the Blind, how important was it to you to keep manufacturing here and work with such a great partner?

@Mike it was a goal and a dream to create an American made product! And we Did!

Partnering with the Blind is helping them to work and its a simple product so they are easily handling the production. Great fit.

Why should Tadpole be in every toolbox in America?

@Mike As folks see how easy it is to use and how many different tapes it works on, we can see it in every toolbox to be used as needed on any job.

@Mike - how does this tool differ from the regular tape cutters available at the hardware store? We have a lefty that has great difficulty keeping the tape from sticking to the roll after each cut. From your pictures I can't see a difference except yours seems smaller and I assume the bungee cord makes loading the tape easier. Is there a guide to thread the tape thru so it doesn't stick to the roll after cutting?

Hi Kathleen, by peeling it backward off the Tadpole you should be able to avoid that problem no matter which hand is dominant. The main difference is it is less bulky and easier to use than a tape gun. There are two pegs you can weave the tape into to help avoid the tape getting stuck to the roll.

Please tell me how this works better for packing tape than a tape gun that uses static cling to keep the end of the roll from sticking to the rest of it.

    Thanks.

@Sara Looks as if it's a lot less bulky and can fit on several different sizes of tapes. I'll be getting some today. Time for painting! Not to mention I've got a million other tape projects & the husband is in a constant struggle with packing tape!

Hi Preston, the one set of three is exactly that: one set. To qualify for free shipping you would need to buy two three-packs or a three-pack and single Tadpole.

    Hi Lee,

Looks like a GREAT tool and I will be ordering! I have family members who are challenged with dexterity due to arthritis, so not only finding the end of the tape, but grasping it is impossible; and YES, typical tape guns are cumbersome! There are two other major factors to me purchasing your invention: 1) IT'S MADE HERE IN THE USA :) and 2) Enlisting the Louisiana Association for the Blind to make this tool. That's a Win/Win in my book!

    Best-Robin

Hi, Lee, I've been looking for a product like this for over a decade, to replace a similar item that I purchased back in the early 1980s. Just ordered 5 of the 1" size -- for a start! We could really use the 3/4" tape size also -- any chance of adding that option. Thank you two for your manufacturing partnership with the Louisiana Association for the Blind. A win-win arrangement!

  • Alex

@Edward Apologies for the confusion. The Value 3- Pack is a $3.40 discount already as opposed to buying 3 individually. For that reason, the free shipping is based on packs and not on individual units. When you buy two or more Tadpoles (either individual or bundled) you will receive free shipping!

    I hope this helps!

How long will the cutter stay sharp. I know that probably depends on how much use they get. For example though...my desktop tape dispenser is dull and will no longer cut. It is a perfectly good dispenser that just needs a new metal cutter but as far as i know i can't replace the metal cutter. Are your cutters replaceable?

  • Mike

    5/6/2016 1:49 PM

Hi Jody, here's the message straight from Lee:

Unfortunately for us, the blade is made of stainless steel and will be just as sharp at least 5 years from now. That's what you get when you try and make a quality American product. Enjoy!
