Hear, Hear

IQBuds combine a Bluetooth headset and noise-cancelling headphones in sleek earbuds that enhance your natural hearing. Superior Intelligent Noise Control, or SINC, is the customizable technology that lets you create a custom hearing experience tailored to your needs. It can amplify or minimize sound to help you hear better in situations you might typically struggle in—like hearing a conversation in a noisy restaurant or listening to music without totally blocking out surrounding sounds. Customize your preferences and surroundings in the app. SINC then applies a frequency filter to the sounds you do and don’t want to hear. Co-Founders Justin Miller and David Cannington were working on industrial-strength hearing headsets for gas and oil workers. When many of their testers expressed interest in a sleeker everyday version, they listened.

Quick Questions

What are IQbuds safe decibel levels?

With IQbuds, the beauty is you get to set the decibel level you want. Determining safe decibel threshold levels depend on time & exposure, but because of how we treat noise, you will have less need to turn music/audio up loud.

Is my phone compatible with IQbuds?

IQbuds are compatible with most Bluetooth-connected devices using Bluetooth 4.2. Click here to see a list.

What Bluetooth functions does IQbuds provide?

You can stream music or make phone calls from your device, like an iPhone or Android phone. You can use the app to setup gain levels and frequency curves using IQvolume and Personal Profile settings in the app.

Do I need to have Bluetooth on?

You can use IQbuds without a Bluetooth link, but we recommend to personalize your IQbuds to your preferences using the IQbuds App first. Please note: the wireless Bluetooth link uses power, so if you are not connected over Bluetooth, then the battery life of IQbuds is longer.

Can IQbuds be adjusted for specific frequencies?

It is not possible to adjust the amplification at specific frequencies, but the overall volume of left and right IQbuds can be adjusted. Below 1KHz there is one setting (setting 2) that provides some low frequency boost. Above 1KHz there are three settings (3, 4 and 5) that provide boost in the high frequencies.

Can the IQbuds volume can be customized for people who need extra amplification?

Yes, part of the very initial setup should be to adjust the Personal Profile Settings (hearing profile) for the user's particular hearing.

Can the settings be different for my left or right ear?

Yes, if you have a difference with hearing in your left or right ear, then this should also be adjusted for in the initial setup of your Personal Profile.

How many decibels do IQbuds block?

Approx. 14 dB of passive attenuation.

How many decibels can IQbuds amplify sound?

IQbuds can deliver an additional 12dB of gain depending on the settings. It can also deliver up to 30dB of attenuation. (12dB + and 30dB -) Additional frequency dependent gain can also be achieved using the personal profile settings (selections 1 to 5).

How customizable is the EQ?

IQbuds have 2 methods to vary the EQ. One through the personal profile setup, this gives the user access to 5 different EQ curves (one of those is flat) and the user can listen and choose what sounds best to them. The second method is by changing the LIVE EQ. This gives the user access to low pass and high pass fixed EQ curves to reduce low frequency and/or high frequency sounds.

How much amplification. I have severe hearing loss in both ears and need significant amplification to give me a comfortable listening experience. How much of that amplification do these earbuds provide?

@Linda HI Linda: It would certainly help. You could also connect to the TV via bluetooth if the tv has that capability or a USB input where you could plug a bluetooth dongle in. You could then blend TV sound with outside sound by adjusting the controls in the IQbuds app for the optimum listening experience.

I’m a bit confused by a couple of statements on the details/ordering page.

    1. Bluetooth streaming battery life of 16 hours with case; 4 hours without case

    2. SINC processing battery life of 32 hours with case; 8 hours without case

By “case” I presume you mean the "battery charger/carrying case.” How does this work? The “case” seems to quadruple battery life, how does it do that? How do you use the earbuds with/without the “case”?

  • Bruce
    Bruce – Special Guest
    9/29/2017 12:15 PM

@Hi Roger: You're right. The battery life refers to an additional 3 charges by using the case/charger. You charge the case by plugging in at night via the usb cable provided - just like you do with your phone. The lights on the front tell you what state of charge its in by pushing and holding in the button for a second or so. All green means case if fully charged. 3 lights means 75% charged and so on. Inside the lights show you that the buds are properly seated in the case for charging and when you open the case red lights means charging green lights means fully charged.

  • Bruce

    9/29/2017 12:18 PM

@Mark Hi Mark:You get 4 - 5 hours ofstreaming and 8 hours of hearing augmentation off a single charge. You can use the case to charge an additional 3x for a total of 16-20 hours streaming and 32 hours hearing augmentation . The app lets you do a lot of customization so if your loss is mild and you need a boost of high frequencies you can do that right in the app.
