Healthy Hydration

There are scores of sports drinks and powders on the market, each designed to help professional and recreational athletes stay hydrated. But this one is different. Nuun, pronounced “noon,” infuses your water with electrolytes, not calories. It’s the creation of triathlete Tim Moxey, who used to water down his sport drinks for training because he didn't like the taste or the sugars. Tim wanted a lighter hydration option, so he created his own portable sports drink mix. There’s no sugar in Nuun, no corn syrup, and no artificial colors or flavors. Each tablet contains four essential electrolytes -- sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium -- and is less than 8 calories. When you drop a tablet into 16 ounces of water, it fizzes to dissolve, and in two minutes you’ve got a refreshing drink that tastes great and has the electrolytes you need to hydrate and refuel during your favorite active endeavors. You can use your own water bottle, which cuts down on throwaway plastic bottles. Since Nuun’s humble beginnings in Tim’s garage, a team of competitive cyclists, skiers, rock climbers, runners and triathletes have helped refine the company’s traditional sports drink tabs (in a range of fruit flavors) and its U natural hydration drink tabs (for anytime hydration; available in goji berry green tea, tangerine ginger and cucumber mint flavors). The Nuun team has the same priorities we do: Smart, portable, great tasting hydration. With Nuun, it’s easy to drink up.

Hi Daily Grommet friends, we are pumped to be here today talking about Nuun electrolyte enhanced drink tabs. Biking along the roads of rural Vermont there really aren't a lot of places to stop and grab a drink that will replace all of the electrolytes lost along the way, so you need to pack your own. Messy powders and solutions were available but I knew there had to be something better and I set out to figure out what that was. The result was a simple tab called Nuun. I am sorry that I can't be here with you today, but Kimberly, the Director of our Ambassador Program is here to answer any questions that you have.

I am pleased to be here and would love to field any questions about Nuun and an active lifestyle, Nuun and hydration for everyday activities, as well as any general questions you may have about the science of hydration.

@Katherine Klinger: Unfortunately, this contains sorbitol which makes it off-limits for many of us who have a severe gastro-intestinal reaction to this artificial sweetener. We hope you can come up with an alternative.

    Hi Ray,

Yes, Nuun does indeed have sorbitol. For those that are sensitive to that particular ingredient we recommend our U-Hydration line instead. It contains no sorbitol.

Hi again SDMidwife, We actually have people contacting us regularly to let us know they have used Nuun or U-Hydration as a labor aid or to help stay hydrated while nursing which we think is pretty great. Do you have any input on that or have you heard of us in those circles as well? Just curious... =)

Nuun contains an artificial sweetener found in food like yogurt; acesulfame potassium. Our all natural line, U-Hydration, is sweetened with stevia.

    Hi Patricia,

Each tab is designed to make a 16oz bottle of Nuun with a full electrolyte profile. You can most definitely break the tablets in half to create whatever concentration of Nuun you feel is best for what you are up to. If you are doing intense exercise or are like me and sweat a LOT you can also double up the tabs in the same size water bottle. If you are doing something where you might not be loosing as much water or electrolyte then breaking the tabs is perfect.

Another option would be to try U-Hydration for those less intense workouts as it has a lower electrolyte profile than our more 'high performance' line which would be Nuun. We have lots if yoga enthusiasts who use U-Hydration in their daily practice.

Aside from being able to easily customizing your electrolyte intake for what we are doing we also encourage customizing your flavors!

We have several youth soccer teams that like a but stronger flavor so they mix tri-berry and lemon lime for their games = lime-berry!

Everyone in the office has their favorite mix too. I am actually partial to Fruit Punch with Lemon Lime... but I don't double the tabs for office days, just half of each. ;)

@luvstobike: We are only selling them as part of a variety pack. It's a great way for those who are just learning about Nuun to be able to try the different flavors, but unfortunately not as great for those who have already tried them and have a personal favorite.

You are correct, U-Hydration is a completely different product. It was formulated especially for individuals like you who feel strongly about sweeteners. When we decided to formulate U-Hydration with stevia and other natural ingredients we were taking advice and feedback from people just like you who were looking for something in particular, and we listened! I hope you try out our U-Hydration products for yourself, your family, and your clients. It really is the same great product that we have in Nuun; easy, portable, and effective hydration for athletes, moms, and busy people on the go!

    Cheers,
