Fab Fob

Like many product innovations, the idea behind Orbitkey was born from frustration. Co-founder Charles Ng didn’t care for the way his traditional key ring jangled in his pocket while jogging. If only he could clamp his keys together . . . After sharing a makeshift prototype with family and friends, Charles and his high school pal Rex Kuo teamed up to create Orbitkey. What began as a simple clamp evolved into a versatile, customizable key fob available in your choice of durable elastomer colors or leather styles. Designed to enable you to stack your keys neatly together or fan them out for easy viewing and access, Orbitkey is simple to adjust and tighten and can accommodate keys of varying shapes. It can even hold its very own bottle opener. No wonder these young Australian entrepreneurs raised 2000% of their Kickstarter goal.

what is the longest key/thing this will accommodate? e.g. i have a car key that is just under 3" in length, end to end...

Hey Ryan, Thanks for the question!

Although it depends on the number of keys you are using (as you can imagine carrying a greater name of keys will reduce the length of the Orbitkey), as a general rule of thumb, we recommend 2.36 Inches from the hole on your key to the end.

    Hope that helps!

    Rex

    Hi Ryan,

Good question and it looks like Rex and Charles have answered it well.

Also, for keys that are thicker in nature or that have alarms attached to them, there is an extra hook that is attached.

I bought a device like this only to discover on arrival that it would not hold any key with a plastic tab, or any long keys, or my bicycle key, or really any key that wasn't flat, metal, and fairly short. I can't tell if your Grommet is more able to accomodate a variety of keys. Is it?

    Hey Catherine,

We have a couple of rules when it comes to key/accessories requirements. As long as the key is relatively flat in shape and is shorter than 2.36" from the hole to the tip of the key, it should fit! I personally use a few non-key items on my Orbitkey: Gym Fob, bottle opener, USB drive, loyal card.

For anything that doesn't fit, there's an optional attachment D-Ring that is included with every Orbitkey.

    Hope that helps!

How does this work with a large car key and a key fob? I don't think it works with my car key. I guess this is fine if you only have house keys. Do you have any other designs for large fob and large car keys? I dont walk everywhere, my car key and fob are with me 24/7.

    Hey Jon,

    Good question!

Every Orbitkey comes with an optional attachment that you can use to attach bulkier items like car keys and key fobs.

Take a look at this photo here:

    Hope that helps!

This link with the car fob kind of diminishes the cool benefit of this though doesn't it? I have a ford with a 3.25" fixed key/fob combo. It would be great to have something like this would fold down my other keys. It would be great to have a larger one for such cercomstances

    Hey Russell,

Yes I agree, unfortunately having a bulky car key/key fob will take away a few of the handy features. Charles does a lot of jogging and he uses a standard carabiner to attach his car keys to the optional attachment. This way he can take off the car keys whenever he doesn't need them.

Will definitely take on board your suggestion!

    Kind regards,

    Rex

How many average sized keys can it hold? The video shows about 5 keys - but can the fob go wider? If so, how wide can it go and still secure keys?

    Thanks!

    Hey Norrie,

Good question, the Orbitkey can accommodate between 3-7 (or 3-8) standard keys. What's good about the locking mechanism is that you can easily adjust it to fit different number of keys without adding additional washers or change screws etc.

    Hope that helps!

    kind regards,

    Rex

    Hey Ed,

Sure thing. If you take a look at the optional attachment that comes with the Orbitkey. It actually utilizes a standard key ring. You'll be able to attach your remotes to the key ring.

    Hope that helps!

this is similar to another key holder I've seen, both great ideas, but the "rub" is you have to attach your car key to the back, because most are thick, and for good reason, IT'S EASY TO USE! I want this item to utilize my car key in the same fashion of my other keys, not swinging separate, defeating the purpose of this product. still, it is cool, just get the bugs? out? maybe a micro light as well? (I could use the "thumblite" I purchased here though.) chris.
