Designer Kathie Stamou, a American mom and blogger with her very own “mommy rap” on You Tube, now lives in Ireland where she makes conversation-starting pieces like this necklace and earring set. She uses a unique crotcheting technique and incorporates out-of-the-ordinary materials like slate from Irish roofs, crystal from Prague, fishing rope, curtain rings, and in the case of this set, plumbing washers and Spanish yarn!
Each piece is handmade, and totally fascinating. They’re precious not because the materials are particularly valuable, but because of the ingenuity Stamou puts into mixing these materials together.
(And yes, the washers do remind us a bit of Grommets, which makes them kind of a lucky charm for the Daily Grommet team.)
