Maker Story

Batter Up!

In the summer of 2008, Bill Page stumbled upon an old lobster buoy beached along the chilly Maine waters, handed it to a little girl, pitched her a tennis ball and ba-ba-buoy, she hit it out of the proverbial park. In that instant, The Original Buoy Bat was born and Bill was on a mission to create a new novelty sport that kids from age 2 to 92 can enjoy.

Unlike Bill’s first prototype, today’s Buoy Bats are made from brand new, authentic lobster buoys finished with bat-grade hardwood handles. The secret fun of the bat is in the giant “sweet spot” of the bullet-nose buoy, making it easy to connect with a ball and send it flying. Each Buoy Bat comes with a Little Blaster ball that’s soft and floats, making it perfect for the beach or the backyard.

Denyse Miller and Buoy Bill were neighbors growing up and reconnected on Facebook. She suggested Daily Grommet test his invention. Buoy did our testers have fun swinging for the beaches in sunny Santa Monica.

For sluggers young and old, it feels great to step up to the plate and take a swing with a Buoy Bat. Play ball!
