Maker Story

Taste Uncovered

Improving the canned drinking experience is Draft Top’s mission. Beverage connoisseurs Armand Ferranti and Alex Caracappa understand that sense of smell is tied to taste. Unfortunately, aluminum cans block the nose and force liquid through a small hole, causing you to drink in air as you go. Surely there had to be a better way to enjoy canned beverages. Inspiration struck when Armand set aside his can of beer to open a bottle of wine with a foil cutter. He wondered if a can could be opened the same way. The two tinkered with prototypes and tested the market on a crowdsourcing site. After further finessing, Draft Top—made in Maryland—became the solution to lifting the lid off aluminum, making room for garnishes, aromas, and smoother, more enjoyable beverages.
