Maker Story

Bags for hope

The name Esperos is derived from the Spanish verb “esperar” which means “to hope.”

After a witnessing the extreme poverty and lack of education for children in Central America, Oliver Shuttlesworth was inspired to do something about it. He founded Esperos on the simple, yet powerful idea of bringing hope for a brighter future to children in need.

Each backpack and book bag sold sends a child in a developing country to school for a year. How can one bag do so much? The answer is surprising: In some countries an education can require as little as $15 USD per year. By donating as much as 50% of its profits, Esperos gives between $5-25 per bag to organizations such as Fonkoze in Haiti and Pencils of Promise in Guatemala.

The backpacks themselves are designed as thoughtfully as the mission that inspires them. Made of the same durable, quality canvas used for vintage military gear, the bags are naturally stain-resistant and water-repellent. With a laptop divider, two zippered pouches, a drawstring top, and two side pockets, Esperos packs are designed to meet the everyday needs of your life while at the same time giving children in third world countries a chance to change the course of theirs.

When you buy an Esperos backpack you do more than just purchase a great-looking bag, you carry hope.
