Maker Story

Just Add Water

Fresh flowers are a great way to let faraway family and friends know you’re thinking about them, especially around the holidays. But a delivery of sad, wilted flowers doesn’t convey the message you had in mind. David Hartstein, the founder of KaBloom, convinced us there’s a better way to send flowers so they arrive healthy, hydrated, and looking like they were plucked from the garden

David launched KaBloom in 1998, sold the retail florist business in 2006, then bought it back in 2008 and reinvented it with an innovative method of shipping fresh flowers in water. His patented device, called the Moses Miracle, is a balloon-like casing that gets filled with water and attaches to the flower stems so they stay hydrated all the way to the recipient. There’s no air inside the Moses Miracle, so the water stays clean and free of bacteria.

Saturated colors, silky petals, and lush, leafy stems are what we all love about flowers. But in the florist business, how the flowers are shipped is just as important as how they look. KaBloom’s strategic focus on the supply chain, and how to keep improving it, means we can enjoy the gorgeous bouquets longer and not worry about how they’re going to arrive at a loved one’s house. KaBloom has it covered -- each and every stem.
