Monkey Pod Games

Maker - Jackie Schiffer

Monkey Pod Games

Maker Story

Brain Games

Ron Levy left a career in technology to start making games with his brother, Gilad. The two siblings set out to create games that challenge players to think mathematically and exercise their spatial skills -- but without any plugs, batteries, computer chips or screens.

When you see their interlocking wooden puzzles and brain teasers, it’s almost impossible not to reach for one and start tinkering. The craftsmanship is beautiful. To make their wooden puzzles, Ron and Gilad use monkey pod wood, which allows for very precise cutting. The gorgeous tree species found in Thailand inspired their company name, Monkey Pod Games. Their metal brain teasers, which challenge you to separate the pieces by twisting and turning the parts, are equally irresistible.

Games and puzzles like Tangram have been around for centuries. Ron and Gilad’s interpretations of these timeless mind-benders and brain teasers are the perfect mix of difficulty and fun. They’ll challenge your math skills and spatial reasoning, but the sense of accomplishment when you figure out a puzzle makes it worthwhile. They’re also refreshingly low-tech, which is just what we need sometimes.
