When Susan Zuker’s husband was battling cancer, she and her son, Jonathan, found comfort in day-to-day affirmations. Their idea for the first charm—a key with a space for a lucky penny—happened after a friend told Susan that every time she found a penny on the street, it was her husband watching over her.
From there, they’ve expanded to many different pewter charms—from old adages to cheerful reminders—that are Made in the USA. You can house them on a companion braided leather keychain. That’s American-made, too.
Even the keepsake box that houses each keychain has significance. It features a replica of the painting “Safe Harbor” by Jonathan. The original hangs in Mass General hospital, where his dad received much-appreciated treatment.
Whether you’re weathering a personal storm, or just want to add a cheerful reminder to your day, these charms let you instill your own meaning.
