Maker Story

Naturally Smooth

When Azar Moayeri arrived in Vancouver in 1981, she couldn’t find any hair removers that weren’t laden with chemicals. So she put her chemical engineering degree to use and started experimenting with everyday kitchen items. Using sugar, water, chamomile, citrus extracts, and other natural ingredients, Azar created her own hair removal products and began selling them to local salons. Today Parissa Labs is still a family business, but it operates out of its new Vancouver facility, creating natural products that are safe and easy to use in homes around the world.

Parissa’s Chamomile Body Sugar is a water-washable hair remover that’s gentle on your skin. To use, you warm the product, apply a thin layer to your legs, body or face, and then zip it off with strips. Parissa’s salon-quality Warm Wax is ideal for more coarse or stubborn hair and is used the same way (you warm the wax, apply, and then zip it off with strips). For the face and bikini areas, Wax Strips are preloaded with wax. Simply warm a strip in your hands, press it onto the area you want to wax, then pull it off (perfect for touch-ups and travel). All three options include a vial of Azulene oil to soothe skin and prevent ingrown hair, and none of the products contain any toxic chemicals or preservatives.

Shaving can irritate skin, plus there are nicks and cuts to worry about. Seeing an esthetician in a salon can be costly and inconvenient. We tried waxing at home with Parissa’s products and found it to be easier, less messy and less painful than we expected. Knowing Azar’s all-natural ingredients are safe enough to ingest makes it all the more appealing.
