Shrinky Dinks Are Back!

In 1973 the U.S. launched its first space station, the Sydney Opera House opened... and Betty Morris invented Shrinky Dinks.

There’s an entire generation of adults who remember the excitement of making Shrinky Dinks -- tracing the designs, coloring them, and watching through the oven window as the pieces shrunk and got thicker. Now we get to pass on that fun to a new generation, thanks to a fresh remaking of the classic plastics.

Lowry Davison, the founder of Joobli Studio, licensed the Shrinky Dinks formula from Betty Morris and gave it a modern makeover. Lowry’s kits come in themed packages such as Circus Jubilee, Enchanted Kingdom, Nature Doodles and Christmas. Each pack includes traceable designs, and plenty of sheets of shrinkable plastic so kids can get creative with their own shrinkable designs.

We discovered the kits after Claire (our summer intern and SCAD student) wore a pair of Shrinky Dinks earrings to the office and got us itching to grab some colored pencils and make our own jewelry. Lowry’s kits are a great way to keep kids entertained at play dates, birthday parties and sleepovers. And for grownups, it’s a cheery reminder of childhood fun and a chance to make new memories with the kids in your life. Time to fire up the oven!
