Sustainable Kids

Maker - Maia Andersen

Maker Story

Style + Substance

Kids have a lot of compassion, and Maia Andersen is using fashion to tap into kids’ do-good desires and at the same time help them to make positive choices about what they’re wearing and how their clothes are made.

Maia is a designer, sustainable business advocate and founder of Sustainable Kids. Her t-shirts for kids are manufactured entirely in the U.S. using certified organic cottons, recycled yarns and hemp blends, and lead- and phthalate-free inks.

Besides being earth-friendly, Maia’s t-shirts are part of a bigger effort to help kids in need. Each shirt is shipped with a postage-paid gift box that the recipient can use to send items to children at a school in Haiti. The box is addressed to Sustainable Kids, and Maia collects, sorts and ships the donations (such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, vitamins, bandages, school supplies) in bulk to Haiti.

Sometimes it helps to get a little nudge to do something we’ve been meaning to do but keep putting off. Today’s nudge comes from Maia, who makes it easy -- and stylish -- to do the right thing.
