Strengthen & Tone

The DoubleFlex total body gym is an all-in-one strengthening and toning device that works muscles like free weights do, but with less stress on joints—and with less bulk. The slim design is lightweight and portable, so it’s a great way to squeeze in a workout while you’re traveling or if you can’t get to the gym. An instructional DVD and fitness guide helps you get started with tips and routines, too. The resistance comes from SpiraFlex band technology created by Paul Francis, the inventor of the Bowflex. He scaled down (and lightened up) the system for NASA astronauts to stay in shape while they’re on the space station. It proved to be so effective that he made the DoubleFlex portable trainer for the rest of us here on Earth. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to mix up your usual workout routine, Paul’s innovative approach will give you the right amount of resistance.

Hello Paul -- this looks like the answer my husband and I have been looking for -- especially when we're traveling in the RV. Here's what I need to know to make an informed decision. What is the maximum weight that the OYO will accommodate? We have a Bow Flex that sees regular use -- my husband has extra rods so he can get what he needs. He says if the OYO can do 350 it would be perfect. In looking at the size and shape (and given information) I'm almost certain it won't approach that weight. Could you let me know -- I think it would work well for me since I don't have the same requirements :-). Dawn

@Dawn This SpiraFlex technology is in my Bowflex Revolution home gym, the one with the plates that attach. The DoubleFlex provides up to 15 lbs. of resistance. Feels like more as you can't use momentum like with free-weights.

@Paul Watching the video, the workout movement seems quite jerky, not at all fluid or smooth. Is this something that improves with experience with the portable gym?

Also, how sturdy is the ?cable? that runs through the gym? Is it a thin steel cable or made of something else?

Thank you! This looks quite intriguing!

@Carolyn The models in the video did not have a lot of training before shooting. Yes, you can workout with smooth movement.

The cable is nylon coated stainless steel like in the health club.

@Paul - Apologies since I seem to keep coming up with questions. I read several reviews on Amazon. How many versions are there of this and which one would I receive if I order through The Grommet or even Amazon?

Hi Paul, as an "older adult" I am developing some bursitis in one of my shoulder joint which is causing weakness in the arm. Do you think that something like this will help to strengthen the arm muscles.

I also do a lot of walking but have developed plantar fasciitis in one heel. Looks like this would give my lower body a workout without being on my feet which can aggravate the heel ligaments. What do you think?

This thing looks really great for this old broad who wants to keep moving for as long as she can.

    Hi Jodi,

The Hillcrest Retirement Community in La Verne, CA just finished a 12 week study of older adults working out with the DoubleFlex 3 times a week. The results will be published in a journal this summer. Dr. Ryan Harrison, the Director of Wellness was so impressed he has started group DoubleFlex exercise classes 4 days a week. I am not a doctor or physical therapist, so I can’t comment on if the DoubleFlex will be useful for you. I do know that any amount of resistance training you can do will be helpful in keeping you mobile and strong as you age.

    Thanks for your comment!
