Generally Well Thought Out
09/12/2019 by Melissa
My kids love this set. I think why it would appeal to kids is obvious. From a parent's perspective, the set generally is well thought out. For example, while my boys find it a little frustrating that the wheels on the utensils don't move, I appreciate the fact that the utensils are all constructed from one solid piece--otherwise you would get food and moisture stuck in the nooks and crannies and cleaning would be difficult. I also like that the plates have non-slip grippers on the bottoms. So far there are only two design flaws, in my view. 1. The space for the spoon leaves the back wheels sticking off the edge of the plate, which makes it back-heavy and prone to fall off when the spoon is "parked." 2. The place mat is slippery on the bottom, which defeats the purpose of non-slip plates. I also kind of wish it came with a knife instead of the pusher.
Grandma Win!

This was the greatest gift ever for my 4 year old grandson. He loves construction equipment of any kind. However, he was resistant to using eating utensils, and preferred only finger foods. When he received this in the mail, he insisted in calling me and demonstrating how to eat with his new construction equipment. Major Grandma Win!
Can They Eat It? Yes. They Can!

I purchased this construction plate for my 2 year old great nephew. He's a good eater but likes to play too. With the plate he can do both at the same time. My niece says he loves it!!

Constructive Eating

If your kids are like mine, they’d much rather play than sit down to eat. Wouldn’t it blow their minds to do both at once? Wouldn’t it blow your mind to see them stay seated and engaged at family meals? Maybe even try new foods without a struggle? These utensils and plates from Constructive Eating will add fun, incentive, and, quite possibly, tranquility to your table and they’ll have your kids shoveling food in their mouths in no time at all. Literally. In a nice way.

The three-piece utensil set features a forklift fork, front loader spoon, and bulldozer pusher. Each apparatus is true to scale, a thrill for those small and highly observant construction fans. Easy-grip handles are made of rubber, which is particularly useful to the under-6 set still mastering their utensils. The coordinating plate has ramps and dividers like a real construction site, and the utensils fit right into the different cavities. (All materials are FDA-approved and free of PVC, BPA, and phthalates.)

The idea for these eating machines came to Jackie Malcolm one night in a sleep-deprived haze, when she wished for a forklift-shaped utensil so her son could entertain himself while eating. The next morning, Jackie and her husband Carter started drafting prototypes and Constructive Eating officially broke ground. So imagine a stress-free family dinner, with little balking or wandering. Picture kids happily experimenting with new foods because it’s so much fun to heft that fantastic forklift. You can just enjoy yourself, and leave the heavy lifting to the pros.
