This is not loud at all. Will it be distracting enough to deter potential incident? Perhaps. But there had better be someone fairly close to you that can hear it.
A Gift

I bought 2 for gifts. One for my granddaughter who has a job that requires her to travel about in the public. The second was for a friend of ours who was returning to the university to finish her studies and would be living on campus. Knowing that they will be better prepared to be safe eases our concerns.

First, it gives off a weird twittering noise unlike any kind of alarm or siren I've ever heard. It didn't seem very loud and, other than being slightly annoying, I don't think it would deter or scare off anybody. As for their saying, "Great for use as an animal deterrent when camping", I had my dog sitting right by me when I tested it and he barely raised his head for a few seconds before ignoring it. Also, I wish I had read ALL the "Full Details" here. I read the line that said, "Comes pre-installed with battery" and the one that said, "Includes pre-installed CR1632 batteries" and the one that says, "Under normal conditions and circumstances, batteries will last at least 2-3 years if unused", all of which made me think the batteries must be replaceable if they tell you what size it uses and how long they last. Then I received it and the instructions say (inside a red box) "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: TEST DEVICE EVERY MONTH AND REPLACE DEVICE ANNUALLY." Now I see near the bottom of their "Details" here, "Please note: Battery is not replaceable" That should be noted near the top, right after they tell you that it comes with batteries installed.

Packs a powerful 130-decibel alert Reusable and TSA-friendly An easy extra measure of safety
Designed to mimic a standard key fob, this keyring alarm is small but sounds a powerful call for help. Pull the top for an ear-splitting 130-decibel alarm that is as loud as a jet taking off. Pop the top back in to stop the sound. It’s reusable and can attach to a bag, belt, keychain, or be worn around your neck—perfect for students, apartment dwellers, campers, joggers, or anyone who wants an extra measure of safety on-hand.

Feel and stay safer with a keyring alarm that looks unassuming but packs a powerful 130-decibel alert.

Pull the top to activate an attention-drawing sound that is as loud as a jet taking off or a jackhammer in action. Trust us, it is ear-splitting. The alarm is reusable—just pop the pin back to stop the sound.

Maker Michael Su modeled the low-key design on a traditional key fob so it can be attached to a keychain, bag, or worn on a lanyard. There are styles suited for kids and it’s TSA-friendly, too.

The alarm can do the job of warding off unwanted attention and works as a call for help as well. It is handy in so many situations for so many types of people—nighttime runners and commuters, campers, students, elderly folks—that we couldn’t think of anyone who wouldn’t benefit from this small, but powerful alarm. more Their Story
