Motorcycle details
A powerful rubber band motor makes the motorcycle ride for as far as 10 feet in one winding. Energy produced by the motor is transmitted by a belt drive to the mechanism. The design of the bike allows you to observe the work of the mechanism, including the moving pistons that look absolutely fascinating. The wide back wheel ensures that the model is steady and won’t tip over and turning handlebars send your bike in whatever direction you choose, making your ride even more exciting. Number of parts: 189
Grand Prix Car details
As the name implies, this model was built to simulate the all-action effect of a formula one Grand Prix car. The model gives you the thrill that comes with speed, the sensation of power with the roar of super engines, and the fast-paced, non-stop action of the Grand Prix circuit. Number of parts: 348
Locomotive details
Built to operate in the same way that the mechanical steam engine operates, this model shows the process of how the valve and piston transfer power to the locomotive engine by the use of a rubber band and gear system. Number of parts: 443
Roadster VM-01 details
The unique charisma of the model comes from both its outstanding technical characteristics and detailed realistic retro-design. The clever combination of the plywood elements of different thickness – 0.08 and 0.16 inches – ensures that the motorcar’s body looks streamlined and clear. Open the hood to see the powerful V8 engine and watch the moving valves. Your sports car has a transmission that switches it in three modes: forward, back, and idle. The driving direction can be adjusted with the steering wheel. The suspension of the front wheels makes the Roadster look even more realistic. With a powerful rubber band motor, the car covers up to 13 feet in one winding. The winding key is designed to look like a spare wheel at the rear of the Roadster. Number of parts: 437
Dream Cabriolet details
This model utilizes a rubber band for the best tension to power the car's motor and driving mechanisms. The car goes forward and backward, but it also idles, providing you with an excellent chance to closely observe the turning parts of the V8 engine. The car also features suspended wheels in both the front and back that provide a smooth ride when you steer the front-wheel couplings. The model also has working handles on the windows and moving windshield wipers, not to mention a trunk that opens and closes. You'll even find emergency items, such as tools and a jack, located beneath the trunk. Number of parts: 739
Trimaran Merihobus details
The model boat set is complete with color-coded templates to make the building process simple and incredibly easy to follow. The boat’s hulls, frames, rigging and bulkheads are on full display so that once completed, the skeleton-style trimaran can be viewed and appreciated in its full glory. The realistic details of the sailboat are startling and impressive to take in, but the mechanical components are truly what set this model ship apart from others. Connecting the stern master wheel and the ship’s pontoons, sturdy ropes help to steer the trimaran with the rear rudder blade. Either take in both the mast’s fore staysail and mainsail or let them out for a look that conveys the sailboat is ready for a day of adventuring at sea. A simple pull of a lever operates the ship’s sail booms. The boat’s rigging is comprised of a thin, but strong, threading in white that keeps the look of the model clean and free of unnecessary distractions. The Trimaran Merihobus allows you to put your own stamp of creativity on your project as the finishing touch is a flag you can design yourself; it’s simple when you use one of the included templates. The ship’s hoists and winch allow you to raise your vessel’s flag and prepare it for adventure. Number of parts: 237

UGEARS intermediate model kits make building a fun and engaging hands-on experience. These kits are geared towards older kids and adults looking for a more complex project. Each model is pieced together from flat, unfinished, laser-cut plywood parts that don’t need tools or glue to be assembled. The finished product has parts that move, too, to put these models in motion.

UGEARS

UGEARS founders Denys and Gennady share a fascination with the inner workings of machines and both are enamored with gears and levers. They realized we rarely get to see these parts in action anymore. To remedy that, they created model kits with movable parts that are engaging from start to finish.

The duo and their Kiev, Ukraine-based team want to encourage folks to be more hands-on, so they strive to make the model-building process as fun as playing with the finished product.

What begins as flat pieces of laser-cut plywood transforms into a model motorcycle, train, treasure box and more designs that all have parts that move in some way—like pistons, wheels, and, yes, gears. There are no tools or glue needed here and there are models suited to different ability levels. You can paint or finish your model once it's built.

Denys made models as a child and wanted to recapture the joy of creating with your hands—which he thought, much like with gears, was something many of us have fallen out of touch with. And we can attest, it’s hard to keep your hands off a UGEARS model.
